Despite the downtown resurgence during New York Fashion Week, there are still a few reasons to trek into the numbered streets. Last night, Maybelline hosted a wild bash, bringing together models and more at midtown’s Hudson Mercantile. On the roof, guests including Adriana Lima and Jourdan Dunn led a packed crowd over to an illuminated swing set as others shimmied to the sounds of DJ and newly minted Olympic gold medalist Chris Mears. Dressed in John Elliott and Stampd, Mears looked the part of the new wave of EDM-minded music-makers. “I really like the trap, hip-hop vibes,” explained the 23-year-old diver, who shared his secret for staying focused. “I listen to a lot of Deadmau5. You can get a lot of inspiration from that kind of music.” Any tips for the fashion set on what to download? “A remix of ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers. It’s incredible.”
Downstairs, it was all about pouty-faced pictures, with Instagram and Vine phenomenon Neels Visser providing a few helpful hints to show-goers and fashion fans alike. “My favorite kind of Instagram is a selfie,” mused the 17-year-old, noting, “the background of the selfie is key.” However, the stars of the evening were the members of the gregarious Gerber clan. Arriving first was runway newbie Presley, followed by dad Rande, mom Cindy Crawford, and fashion’s latest darling, sister Kaia. And with Rande and Cindy paling around with George and Amal Clooney, it’s clear these model parents know a thing or two about having a good time. “Drink Casamigos,” said Rande with an ear-to-ear grin, “but drink responsibly.”
