Of all the trending fall haircuts I expected to find myself coveting, a vibrant copper pixie wasn’t high on the list. Cropped close to the head and brighter than the average phone screen, the look has been popularized by actress Emma Stone and, as of this week, internet perma-crush Keke Palmer. Keke’s is super-short and styled in a side part with gentle waves, while Emma’s has a ruffled, boho quality with a fringe that rests just above her eyebrows, but both are proof that this is 2025’s statement style.

“Pixie cuts are iconic and they always have their ‘moment’, no matter the point in time,” James Samuel, colorist at Hershesons Belgravia, tells Vogue. “Now, they have more of a ’90s vibe, like Iris Law’s pixie.” Law has been bleaching her own cropped hair a brilliant shade of blonde and oscillating between tousled wet looks and sleeker styles.

A copper pixie, though, feels like something new, a blend of two of the most popular styles of the last 12 months. “It’s the warmth of it,” Dean Harris, colorist at Larry King Marylebone, explains to me when I ask why copper is still so in demand. “Copper catches the light and almost glows, which makes it instantly eye-catching. On a pixie cut, it looks fresh, modern and full of personality.”

Before lopping off your hair and dyeing it, there are a few things to consider. “Commitment is key,” says Harris. “Copper looks amazing, but it needs looking after, and it can be a tricky color to shift if you change your mind. It becomes part of your whole look, so you want to be ready to embrace it fully.”

“A transformation can feel amazing, but it’s not for everyone,” Samuel continues. He suggests having a good chat with your stylist before cutting anything. They’ll be able to help you understand if your hair will be easy to style short or if it might require more effort day-to-day.

When it comes to finding the right copper for you, Harris suggests looking at your natural undertone in order to pick the best shade for your skin. “Warm skin suits fiery-gold coppers, while cooler undertones look best with soft rose or amber tones,” he explains. “It’s about finding the right balance so the shade enhances, rather than overwhelms.” Tinting your eyebrows a soft copper, as Palmer has, brings the whole thing together, says Samuel.

If you’re ready to make the change, these expert tips will keep your copper vibrant and hair healthy.

  • Try not to wash your hair too much and stay out of the sun, says Samuel. “It’s the simplest way to keep the color fresh.”
  • “Glossing treatments can revive faded tones and a sulphate-free shampoo will help,” he adds.
  • Harris says to stick to cool water when you wash your hair and a color-depositing mask between appointments to keep the richness “alive.”
