Sometimes life can be frustrating; sometimes that makes you mad; sometimes, when you re mad, you act erratically. And while we wouldn’t recommend lashing out at a significant other, you certainly wouldn t be the first. (Often, it seems, we take out our irritation on those closest to us.) And while a certain air of flushed, vaguely unhinged rage can seem appealing, even erotic in the right scenario—consider the passionate, inky-tressed, shoulder-less-red-frock-wearing Betty in Betty Blue or the S&M getup-donning Mimi in Bitter Moon—we don’t actually live in films, where such behavior is celebrated, even applauded—much as we might like to. So save the hysterics: Why not channel those smoldering irritations somewhere constructive?
First stop: your closet. The resort runways were full of looks for those with complicated inner lives, from **Alessandro Michele’**s retro Gucci girls to **John Galliano’**s gender-obfuscating twists on the classics at Maison Margiela. Go ahead and dress your own inner warped heroine in seventies-inspired duds and take all that negative energy to a positive place, like to some dance floor that plays French disco. Pop on a gingham frock for a touch of good-gamine-gone-bad. Or maybe sit down with nothing on but some diamond-encrusted pill-shaped earrings (so Valley of the Dolls!) and write yourself a flurry of notes in your diary about how you need to finally try meditation. After all, sometimes channeling those hyped-up feelings can be healthy—especially if they end up looking this chic.
