David Adjaye’s 50th Birthday Bash!

It’s been quite a week for David Adjaye. On Saturday, President Obama opened the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture designed by Adjaye, and then two days later, the gregarious architect celebrated his 50th birthday with a lavish soirée. Joining him in the festivities at the Willard InterContinental were Desirée Rogers, Linda Johnson Rice, and Craig Robins, who were met by a fashionable crew including Monique Péan and Thelma Golden. Between the sips of Dom Pérignon, an interactive photo booth, and tracks being spun by Adjaye’s brother, sound artist Peter Adjaye, revelers including Yves Béhar and Fatima Robinson shimmied all evening. However, the crowning moment of the night? The birthday cake from Charm City Cakes in the shape of Adjaye’s latest D.C. design. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.
