Oscars Frontrunners Demi Moore and Mikey Madison Don’t Need To Watch Their Backs—but You Might Want To

Business in the front, glamorous gala in the back—so says Demi Moore’s latest outfit. And it looks like fellow awards season darling Mikey Madison took a note out of the same Oscars campaign dressing book, when she twirled to shown her own full look. The Oscars 2025 frontrunners for best actress hardly need to watch their backs with how the season has gone down for them both so far—but you might want to.

Last night, all the nominees turned out for the Annual Academy Awards nominees dinner, which takes place at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Demi Moore opted for a straight-from-the-runway Nina Ricci spring summer 2025 suit: the monochromatic white outfits features stiff lapels and structured shoulders with a single button, and billowing palazzo suit trousers. So far, so sensually stern. But when The Substance actor turned around to pose, the open, draped back was on full display. It’s just another of the winning looks by Moore’s longtime stylist Brad Goreski—who has dressed Moore in gilded, golden gowns and slick suits.

She accessorized with pear shape diamond earrings and a solid 18K yellow gold and oval cut pear diamond ring from Uniform Object. Moore’s glossy and straight hair is by Dimitris Giannetos—who has been styling the actor’s long locks in sexy, undone curls and chic twisty up-dos all season long.

Elsewhere, Mikey Madison—styled by Jamie Mizrahi—wore a Bill Blass fall winter 1987 sourced from actress-favorite Shrimpton Couture. The navy and black, velvet embroidered gown—older than Madison herself—features a strapless neckline and a gathered bustle than creates volume from the waist down. The dress ties up in a big velvet bow right in the middle of her back. Think of it like the after midnight version of Marilyn Monroe’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes dress. She wore it with black Aquazzura sandals with a delicate ankle strap and open toe.

Madison’s soft and feminine makeup was done by Melissa Hernandez, and her loose up-do with face-framing sections by Rena Calhoun. Both Hernandez and Calhoun can be credited with Madison’s classic movie star glam.

Madison wasn’t the only attendee to have a vintage moment last night either. Ariana Grande, styled by Mimi Cuttrell, wore an Yves Saint Laurent fall winter 1991 haute couture dress. The black gown features a sheer skirt and feathered pink strapless neckline. Cynthia Erivo, styled by Jason Bolden, went bold and bright with a canary yellow Givenchy spring summer 1998 silk maxi jacket and midi skirt, patterned with tropical and florals. Both Erivo and Grande have delved into the archives for their own awards season wardrobes: With Erivo opting for archive Givenchy by Alexander McQueen (worn on the runway by the blueprint, Debra Shaw) for the SAG awards, while Grande goes deep into the nostalgic feminine looks of ’60s Givenchy haute couture, and Christian Dior by Yves Saint Laurent.

But it was Moore and Madison’s playful looks that stole the evening. They might not be watching their backs as they ride high from from their respective Golden Globes and BAFTAs wins, but we sure are.
