While the bucket hat isn’t by any means a new style, it’s really taken hold—this season, it’s all about the the shrunken but shade-providing brim. You might be familiar with a few designer bucket hats already; the iconic ’90s-inspired streetwear staple got the Prada stamp of approval several collections ago with their must-have black nylon bucket. And a handful of womenswear designers have since followed suit, unable to resist creating a version of their own.
Designers are making the hat-style all their own and the accessory is proving to be a fine accompaniment to their ready-to-wear. Take Gabriela Hearst’s tie-dye cashmere version, for example, which acts like an extension of her label’s kaleidoscopic tie-dye prints found on dresses and knitwear. Erdem also offered up bucket hats, his in the same floral print fabrics seen on his spring 2021 runway show. Then there’s Gucci, which teamed up with London’s Liberty for a well-decorated topper. Jacquemus, Loewe, and JW Anderson all give their own fisherman hats a summery spin in island prints and woven raffias, even a grosgrain chin strap ribbon for good measure. After all, you wouldn’t want any of these designer bucket hats to blow off in the wind. Even The Attico, a brand built on sky-high stilettos and heavily feathered and embellished partywear, has given the hat-style a try.
