Frigid Festivities: Diane von Furstenberg s Post-Show Dinner and Edun s Family-Style Celebration

It may have felt like -7 degrees outside on West Fourteenth Street (I’m not speaking in hyperbole, that’s actually what my iPhone weather app said), but inside Diane von Furstenberg’s studio at her post-show dinner, it was all warmth and spring cheer with tables dressed in fuchsia linens and bright-eyed anemones. For a day that was dubbed the coldest in two decades, it was interesting to see how the fashion flock dressed for the occasion. Wendi Murdoch paired her suede over-the-knee boots with a shearling Kelly bag—lest the contents of her purse get chilly. Meanwhile Chelsea Leyland braved the hypothermia-inducing weather barelegged! It girls-on-the-verge Talita von Furstenberg and Sofia Richie flitted about with long straight locks bobbing on top of fur collars. In keeping with her new collection’s chinoiserie-inspired sensibility the dinner was catered by Indochine, which seemed only fitting considering the restaurant long-served as the location of her post-show dinner. Why bring Mohammed to the mountain when you can bring the mountain to Mohammed?

Meanwhile, the fashion flock put on their finest faux fur for Edun s celebratory dinner after the brand’s much lauded show. Reminiscent of Edun’s London dinner toasting its pre-fall collection, the brand chose to host its latest event at the Renwick Gallery. With tables designed by creative director Danielle Sherman, the setting was a study in modern cool: sleek, but not sterile. Taking in the atmosphere were a gaggle of celebs including Alexa Chungand Jefferson Hack alongside music icons Patti Smith and Michael Stipe. With the show fresh in everyone s minds, all chatter turned to everyone s favorite pieces. "I liked the boots in general," said Chung, dressed in a faux-fur trimmed menswear duster by the brand. "The customers will love the fringing and the sleeveless piece and the Prince of Wales check in gray," said Ruth Chapman of Matches Fashion. But Ali Hewson, cofounder of Edun, said it best: "I love to see how she thinks concepts into wearable, beautiful clothes." But what does lady of the hour—who recently became engaged to photographer Todd Selby— want to do next? "We re doing shoes," Sherman said coyly, "but we may launch handbags for spring 2016." As guests settled into a family-style dinner, Hewson made a toast thanking the room for their support. Sherman took center stage and referred to Hewson as a second mom before Gary Jermyn recited a Yeats poem. As Barneys’ Daniella Vitale and other fashion heavyweights made their way out, Hewson couldn’t help but comment on the fashion community’s show of support for Sherman’s work. "She has a very clear vision," she said, explaining her success. "She makes statements."
