The VMAs offer the perfect platform for subversive, out-of-the-box beauty—in short, Doja Cat’s specialty. The rapper embraced the coming of the creepiest season with an arachnid-inspired aesthetic that extended from her cobweb naked dress to her surrealist spider lashes.
Rather than leaning into the darker elements of spider lore, the nominee went ethereal in Oscar de la Renta, shoulders dusted in silver glitter, face adorned with diamanté embellishments and luminous touches. The only noir addition came via the sets of fantastical feathered lashes that framed Doja’s just-for-the-night emerald green eyes, the impactful gaze bordered by a pencil-thin brow and pearlescent shadow (Maybelline New York’s Color Tattoo Eye Stix in I Am Shining and I Am Confident). The look came courtesy of makeup artist Ernesto Casillas, who clearly took inspiration from spiders and used Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara as the base for the lash look—ideal inspo for a truly unique Halloween.
