A stone’s throw from Madison Square Garden, where Kanye West was gearing up to perform for the second night of his Saint Pablo Tour, New York Fashion Week was just getting started. IMG and Target hosted a lavish kickoff party at the Park at Moynihan Station, where models mingled with stars of stage and screen before the madness begins. Taking in the scene were Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah; Matthew Morrison; and Christie Brinkley, dressed in a body-con frock seemingly pulled from the wardrobe of Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys. And with Paul Shaffer at the piano, it wouldn’t have been out of place for the model to hop on top and belt out some hits.
Getting into the groove was the millennial model brigade of Emily Ratajkowski, Joan Smalls, and Kendall Jenner, who had all woven pieces from Target into their slick ensembles. Chanel Iman, Devon Windsor, and Nina Agdal checked out the Sardi’s-like caricatures on the wall, while Hilary Rhoda and Georgia Fowler listened to Rufus Wainwright’s stellar singing. With the parties just beginning, it was refreshing to see everyone hit a high note early in the week.
