Browsing for handbags is easy, but making a decision is anything but. The best everyday handbags bridge the gap between fashion and function—fitting must-have daily essentials, from laptops to wallets, chargers, and an emergency pair of flats, while looking put-together and chic.
Vogue Editors’ Go-To Everyday Handbags
As Vogue editors, we’re constantly discovering what’s new in the fashion world, both on the high street and on the runways. Every once in a while, we come across an item that’s so good, we decide to make it a part of our daily rotation.
Ahead, we’ve asked over a dozen staffers to share their most-reached for handbags. While we all have unique personal styles, there’s one thing that we have in common: It’s the details that make a bag a winner. From Khaite’s crossbody to L.L Bean’s failsafe canvas tote and Loewe’s artfully sculpted shoulder bags, discover the everyday handbags Vogue editors love, below.
Chloe Malle, head of editorial content
“The Alaïa Bouledogue is the perfect size for everyday because I can fit all my kids’ weird tiny toys as well as my own riff raff but it all looks chic and the structured shape means you can see everything at the bottom when you open it—and, it has the word ‘Dogue’ in the name! On the other side of the spectrum, this soft Brunello tote is the perfect black hole carry-all that really can fit everything from an extra pair of shoes to my kids’ water bottles and still look pulled together.”
Daisy Shaw-Ellis, jewelry director
“I am loyal to two types of everyday bags. The first has to look good while also being able to hold a laptop. The second is a minimally branded structured crossbody bag that can fit the essentials and then some. The Prada bucket bag is my surprise commuter hero. Good-looking and roomy enough to cart about my laptop, notebook, and other office essentials. The Khaite Blake bag, meanwhile, is big enough for keys, wallet, phone, sunglasses on a normal day and flexes a secret talent to keep a passport, charging cord, and backup phone battery on a travel day (or week).”
Libby Page, executive director, shopping
“There is nothing worse then tarnished hardware on a luxury handbag, Savette have solved that problem with this super chic magnetic clasp. The straps are adjustable, so it can go over my shoulder (yes it does fit over a massive coat in the winter!) or when I’m sans laptop I can shorten it so it sits in the crook of my arm. Work, weekend, long weekend away, grocery shopping, or the gym—there is nowhere I won’t carry this bag. It makes me feel instantly elevated.”
Naomi Elizee, fashion market director
“My current obsession is the Marc Jacobs Dual bag! It’s like a magic trick—sneaky enough to fit everything I need but not too bulky to sit perfectly under my shoulder like it was made for me.”
Maddy Fass, fashion market director, shopping
“I have a few everyday bags I like to keep on rotation and I swap them around pending what I have planned for the day and what I am wearing. The slouchy Loewe Flamenco tote I’ve had for a few seasons was one of the best The RealReal purchases I have made. The house doesn’t seem to be slowing down in that handbag family! The Tibi boat and tote in collaboration with L.L. Bean has been my go-to carryall (it’s great for day trips, gym visits, on-set days, etc.), it has earned me the most compliments and is rooted in classic practicality. The most important thing (not pictured here) is the pouch that holds all of my essentials so that I can transfer everything I need seamlessly between bags without a second thought!”
Talia Abbas, shopping director
“Some might describe this smaller Park Tote as tiny but mighty… just like me. It doesn’t fit a laptop, but that’s what my other petite L.L. Bean is for.”
Mai Morsch, fashion editor
“On days I commute into the office, I’m a fan of the two-bag system: a tote large enough for my laptop, book, and water bottle, paired with a smaller bag for essentials—wallet, keys, phone, chapstick. There’s nothing worse than digging around in an oversized bag! I love the styles below from Lié Studio and Porto. The Porto bag also comes with an optional strap, so it can be worn crossbody on weekends or styled as a clutch for dinner out.”
Laird Borelli-Persson, senior archive editor
“Tory Burch’s Romy bag has been on my arm all season.”
Hannah Jackson, fashion writer
“Last year, I found an incredible vintage Celine bucket bag on eBay and it s quickly become my go-to for work and beyond. It’s roomy enough to fit all of my essentials—plus a book—but as someone with a tendency to schlep around things I don t need (a.k.a 1,000 lip glosses, receipts, and TicTacs), it keeps me accountable in just bringing the necessities.”
Ciarra Lorren Zatorski, fashion editor
“If I’m not out and about hauling my everyday essentials in the beloved L.L. Bean Boat and Tote, then I’m likely toting my Mini Loop shoulder bag! Small but mighty, this Bottega classic holds just about everything I need (phone, wallet, keys, and maybe a sneaky treats!) behind the most sophisticated Italian designs.”
Cortne Bonilla, senior shopping writer
“For a typical work day, I like to carry a big, big bag that can fit everything I d ever need in there—from my wallet and keys, to a protein snack, multiple hand creams, and a plethora of lip glosses. ’Tis the season for suede, and I’m about to do my yearly trade-out for sumptuous totes and bucket bags.”
Caitlyn Doherty, assistant fashion editor
“When it comes to everyday bags, they need to check a few key boxes: roomy enough to fit all my essentials, not too bulky, comfortable to carry under my arm, and versatile. My current go-to daytime/work bag is the Longchamp Le Smart Tote - it fits everything I need for the workday without weighing me down. For evenings and weekends, I’ve been reaching for the Verafied Hobo Bag to dress up my outfits. It’s the perfect size, and the python print instantly elevates any look.”
Minty Mellon, shopping market editor
“I rarely switch out my everyday bag–mostly because I inevitably forget to transfer one crucial item, whether it’s a lipstick, my wallet, or sunglasses. Balenciaga’s Rodeo bag has stayed by my side for nearly two years now, since it was first released: spacious enough to hold my laptop and daily essentials, yet refined enough to carry straight to dinner after work. The real selling point? It’s surprisingly lightweight, making it one of those rare bags that truly does it all.”
Andrea Zendejas, shopping market editor
“These two bags feel like true everyday essentials—minimal and versatile. The Khaite Simona is perfect for daily wear and ideal for running to appointments or events. The Valesque tote is a carry-all, spacious enough for my laptop, charger, and journal. As a new mom, it’s practical enough to double as a baby bag without looking like one.”
Irene Kim, production and editorial associate
“For some stupid reason I sold my vintage Loewe Amazona bag on TheRealReal over the holidays. Now that I don’t have it, I want it again. It fit my computer, snacks, and my makeup pouch and all around was a great bag. I’ll be on the hunt on eBay or maybe I’ll get one of the new ones from Jack and Lazaro’s spring 2026 collection when it comes out!”
Kiana Murden, senior beauty shopping writer
“There are two types of everyday handbags: work and play. A massive tote is essential for carrying essentials (laptop, headphones, and many a beauty product) to and fro—office, home, beauty closet, event, repeat. For laptop-less 9-5, or weekend frolics, I appreciate a shoulder bag for hands-free wear. I’m currently obsessed with elongated, east-west styles like Freja’s Chrystie style or bucket styles like ATP Atelier’s Cremella—always in a classic black or versatile chocolate and suede hues.”
Conçetta Ciarlo, beauty commerce writer
“In general, I love a vintage shoulder bag—one shape in particular that endures as an all-time favorite for me is the Gucci Jackie bag. Whether you shop it pre-loved or brand new, it s a jack(ie) of all trades—from quirky prints to solid color ways. Plus, it’s surprisingly spacious (trust me, I always have a makeup pouch, 3 lip liners, and a digital camera stuffed in my bag at any given time). My newest bag discovery, though, is Bembien’s lovely woven bags (each comes with a top handle or shoulder strap!)—these also let me hoard all my trinkets while still looking chic.”
