Fall has officially arrived, and with the shift in seasons comes the perfect opportunity to reevaluate your closet in light of the current mood. Individuality defined many of the autumnal fashion collections, and fall’s most-wanted pieces encourage (perhaps paradoxically, more than ever), personality-driven styling—an approach we leaned in to when we asked a handful of Vogue editors to style their fall standouts for our seasonal shoot.

So what are the hero buys topping our wish lists? We’ll start with a few spring carryovers: romantic, flowy blouses inspired by Chloé and Altuzarra, and lace skirts and lingerie-esque slips. Cigarette pants get a rebrand for fall in wool and leather, while classic argyle knits add depth to modern prep.
Of course, coats and jackets are the true hero of fall-winter dressing, and there’s no shortage of statement options this year to add to your closet. Prada gave athleticism her signature Milanese twist with sporty zips in pretty pastels, while Gucci showed shrunken, ladylike jackets as transitional layers. For the coldest days of the year, there are elegant scarf coats to cocoon yourself in by Veronica Leoni’s Calvin Klein, and structured peacoats from Patou that cut a sharp figure. For the wild at heart, leopard remains a neutral.

The Bohemian Blouse
Chemena Kamali’s vision at Chloé continues to breathe new life into the bohemian aesthetic, with billowing tops as her focus (little surprise if you recall the 2024 interview where Kamali shared with Vogue that she has a personal fascination with and collection of over 600 blouses). Take cues from both her latest collection and Altuzurra’s (as seen above) and match with a sweeping maxi skirt or voluminous balloon pants.
The Lace Skirt
Making the lace skirt fall-appropriate is all about balancing delicacy and edge. At Jil Sander, a blush pink style with sheer inserts was a instant crowd-pleaser, redefining modern femininity. Team it up with a funnel-neck jacket and over-the-knee boots.
The Wrap Coat
The wrap coat is a one-and-done fall statement. From work to dinner parties, it offers effortless elegance that lends ease with a touch of drama. Go bold with a dramatic silhouette from Calvin Klein or opt for a softer drape from Altuzarra.
The Paillette Piece
Seen everywehre from Dries Van Noten to Tory Burch, paillettes stole the spotlight. Style them with a cashmere sweater or blazer for daytime chic.
The Peacoat
The peacoat, spotlighted at Patou, brings a sense of heritage to modern wardrobe staples; now an emblem of polished style, the peacoat is said to have originated in the 18th century, when it was first worn by Dutch sailors. Stick to the classics and snag a double-breasted wool option to wear with everything from fluid trousers to corduroys and checkered skirts.
The Argyle Sweater
An archetype of preppy fall style, argyle sweaters are having a moment once more. Khaite’s are an editor favorite of the season, where they were given a downtown spin next to slim leather trousers and pointy pumps. Style yours similarly for a city feel, or lean into the piece’s outdoorsy spirit by surrounding it with rubber boots and a barn jacket.
The Knee-Length Skirt
Streamlined yet sexy, the knee-length pencil skirt becomes a modern wardrobing solution when paired with a cropped jacket or cashmere crewneck. For after-hours drama a bold blouse and oversized earrings are how Saint Laurent suggests you wear it.
The Sporty Jacket
Sporty sensibilities get a fashion twist at Prada, where they were worn with skirts and pumps for off-kilter polish. Follow suit and pair with similarly feminine separates for a refined take on athleticism.
The Cigarette Pant
Think Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. The cigarette pant is as timeless as it is flattering—plus, its ankle-grazing hem is the perfect complement to ballet flats or loafers. The tapered silhouette gets a new look in sharply pleated wool and (faux) leather.
The Leopard-Print Coat
Spotted everywhere this season is the leopard coat, with Adam Lippes’s and Khaite’s iterations commanding the focus. Treat it as you would any other neutral coat and wear it with slim jeans and pumps or cigarette pants and penny loafers.
The Lingerie Dress
Slip into something a little lacy and sheer this season with a lingerie-inspired dress. Depending on the occasion, wear it with clogs or kitten heels.
The Little Lady Jacket
Soft yet sharp, the lady jacket is the answer for in-between weather. Take note from Gucci and wear yours with a knee-length skirt and ultra-feminine accessories or high-waisted trousers for contemporary elegance.
The Draped Dress
Sculptural and statuesque the draped dress is staging a full comeback. The Alaïa fall 2025 collection set the tone, inspiring a new wave of fluid, goddess-like silhouettes. The trend extends beyond dresses; draped tops are equally in the limelight.
