Not all designers’ personal styles come through in their designs, but Pharrell Williams has crafted such a consistent image that, as I did a deep dive into 20 years of photos of his public appearances, I wondered if his own closet would be reflected in his debut collection for Louis Vuitton menswear. Now that the runway photos are in, we have an answer: Yes!
On the Pont Neuf in Paris tonight, Williams presented a joyful collection that was a reflection of his lived experiences as well as his own vast wardrobe. Forget Waldo; you could find Pharrell in a varsity jacket, lots of his beloved camo (reimagined as Damoflague), shorts suits, military references, jewels, and sunglasses. Chapeau!
