Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Ayo Edebiri—women are having a lot of fun with their tailoring right now. While Kidman and Fanning lean into the sharp and loose masculine shapes, and Edebiri goes hard on the referencing à la Julia Roberts, it’s the turn of suit-savant Hailey Bieber to show what she can do with formalwear.

Stepping out on another day night with husband Justin, Hailey Bieber looked like she meant business in vintage Mugler from the fall winter 1998 collection, styled as usual by longtime collaborator Dani Michelle. The pinstripe skirt suit comprised a fitted blazer with padded shoulders, a nipped-in waist, and low front—which she wore shirtless—and a matching knee-length pencil skirt with a slit. She wore black stilettos and sheer tights, and kept her growing caramel hair long and straight. Sunglasses, as usual, stayed on, and her Rhode espresso-toned phone case was in her hand.

Her husband Justin walked just behind her, keeping low key in an oversized black hoodie, pants, and a neon yellow beanie.

The suit was sourced from The RealList, a vintage and second-hand luxury dealer specializing in 90s and early 2000s fashion that’s become a mecca for the it-girls. The RealList co-founders Alex Cohen and Grant Ellis tell Vogue that the skirt suit from their archive is from the fall winter 1998 ‘Lingerie Revisited’ Mugler collection: “A variation of Hailey Bieber’s set appeared on the season’s runway and in an incredibly moody Helmut Newton photoshoot in Monaco.”

“The blazer features a plunging neckline, while the skirt features a wrap-style with an ultra-high slit. Manfred was a master of design, and his suiting options still stand out today. His understanding and appreciation of the female form have allowed his designs to transcend time, being as relevant now as ever.”

The Thierry Mugler suit is from Cohen and Ellis’s private archive, accessible only to a small group of loyal VIP clients: “We’ve had the pleasure of working with [Bieber’s stylist] Dani Michelle and her incredible team for years, and they frequently turn to us for rare, archival pieces from our private collection. We sent Dani multiple options for this look, and this Mugler set won out. She only shows the best to her clients and always knows what will resonate. A true professional, Dani has an expert eye and an effortless ability to give vintage pieces a modern edge.”

Olivia Rodrigo also picked up a Mugler mini-dress from The RealList at the end of last year, from the same era, and Kylie Jenner a black fur chubby coat by Tom Ford for Gucci.

As we know, Hailey loves a suit: Whether it’s made more casual as separates or the full corporate powerhouse shabang in a double-breasted suit, button-up, and necktie from Saint Laurent’s spring 2025 collection. Powering dressing done the Bieber way. Hailey Bieber is by now a frequent customer of Ellis and Cohen’s, having picked up a vintage brown skirt suit from Gianni Versace’s fall 1996 collection and a vintage faux fur from them too. She wore it for her return to office, following the birth of her and Justin’s son, Jack Blues. Date night is just as much a serious business for the Biebers.
