Hailey Bieber Brings Back a Classic Olsen Hairstyle

If your Olsen twins knowledge runs as deep as mine, you’ll be able to identify their films by their hairstyles. The jaunt to Paris with their ambassador grandfather, where they fell in love with Jean and Michel in Passport to Paris, instilled in me a deep and enduring affinity for butterfly clips naturally. Then there’s the time they popped to Rome with the sort of undulating Renaissance waves possible only with a curling iron and ample time to spare. A real fave is the tousled, piece-y, slightly grungy waves they wore in New York Minute. (I’ll spare you the plot points, but know it involves bunking off school and fleeing an irate Eugene Levy. Just good cinema). But back to the hair. It’s somewhere between Kate and Sienna trudging through puddles at Glasto and the iconic Mischa Barton in The O.C.

They’ve long since left their movie days in the past, but when Mary-Kate and Ashley—now arbiters of quiet luxury and presiding over a fashion empire in The Row—make (rare) public appearances these days, they tend to do so with exactly that sort of tousled, “just woke up like this” hair.

In recent years, though, our penchant for grungy hair has been usurped by the bouncy, beachy blowdry, which is exactly why Hailey Bieber’s most recent IG post feels like such a welcome change: her usually smooth locks had been replaced with a loose, almost crimped wave.

Bieber, who tends to favor a tucked-under bob, slicked back bun or a flippy blowout, is rarely seen with mussed, grungy hair. In this instance, it looked perfect with the fail-safe, go-to Hailey Bieber uniform: low-rise blue jeans and a simple black halterneck. My favorite part is the delicate flyaway halo, as though she has just run her hands through her hair—totally perfect.
