Last night in L.A., Justin and Hailey Bieber headed out for dinner at the celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi (also a favorite of Rihanna and A$AP Rocky). The couple emerged from the restaurant looking extra lovey-dovey, with Justin almost piggybacking onto Hailey in a sweet half-embrace. (Or, he was using her as a human paparazzi shield?) Still, we’re focused on Hailey’s chic ensemble. Always the fashion plate, the model stepped out in a polished fall look that broke a long-standing color rule. Her big risk? She paired black with brown. The shock! The horror!
While it seems like the two neutrals would clash—they’re so close in hue, yet not close enough—Hailey’s chic outfit proved that they can work well alongside each other. She first grounded the look with a black crewneck sweater and a mini skirt, then piled on brown leather accessories such as a Coperni top-handle bag and pointed below-the-knee cowboy boots.
What was once an old style taboo is, clearly, now a fresh color pairing. The spring 2024 runways had tons of black and brown together too, including at shows such as The Row, Ferragamo, and Burberry. When done right, like Bieber, it gives any look an immediate sense of richness and depth. Monochromatic dressing suddenly seems like a snooze.
