Stars came out in droves for Saint Laurent’s spring 2024 runway in Paris tonight. In the front row were celebrities such as Demi Moore, Austin Butler, Carla Bruni, and Jerry Hall—the list goes on and on. Also in attendance was the label’s ongoing face Hailey Bieber, who walked the splashy step and repeat in a black, long-sleeved maxi dress that was all about the giant back cutout. One word came to mind: Sexy.
The open-back gown is fast becoming Bieber’s signature red carpet dress. Back in June, she attended a friend’s wedding wearing a slinky turtleneck gown with an open back. At the 2019 Met Gala (for the Camp theme), Bieber also turned heads in a pink Alexander Wang maxi gown that was backless—and complete with an exposed thong, no less.
If you think about it, there is something fresh and modern to the look. While it’s covered from head to toe in the front (Bieber prefers versions with long sleeves and turtlenecks), the visible back gives it an alluring feel, and in a more unexpected way. Plus, it’s a statement frock that doesn’t require much styling with it: At Saint Laurent, Bieber only accessorized with minimal strappy heels and dainty jewelry. Who doesn’t love a garment that does all of the work for you? It’s her go-to silhouette for a reason.
