Some parties demand attendance, even if that means a fashionably late arrival. For The Gilded Age actor Louisa Jacobson, Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party was a can’t-miss occasion, and one that found her hopping offstage at the Geffen Playhouse—where she is currently starring in the West Coast premiere of Trayf—and directly into red carpet glam.

To complement her ebony off-the-shoulder gown from Khaite, hairstylist Ben Skervin put a contemporary spin on a Hollywood classic. “I did a side part and swept the fringe down a little over the eye, keeping a loose wave in the back which is Old Hollywood, but the tuck behind each ear is what made it feel modern,” says Skervin, who spritzed the style with Oribe’s Free Styler Working Hairspray to ensure it would remain in place throughout the night’s festivities.

“The inspiration for this look was elegance and simplicity,” says makeup artist Jo Strettell of her provided beauty notes, which played up Jacobson’s naturally glowing complexion using a cascade of products from Chantecaille. For the eyes, a skim and smudge of liner across the top and bottom lash lines was finished in a subtle wing, a layering of brown and white shadows from Chantecaille’s Giraffe Eye Quartet offering the sultry look some sheer shimmer. A coat of mascara, a swirl of blush, and a swipe of coral lipstick (Chantecaille’s Lip Veil in Impatiens, which the actor slipped into her Jeffrey Levinson clutch for touch-ups), and Jacobson was red carpet ready—after one last picture with her glam squad, including a FaceTime last-look from stylist Edward Bowleg, of course.

Here, Jacobson shares a look at more details from her pre-party prep.
