Inside Alex Consani’s Birkin Bag: A Journal for Manifesting, a Top Model Video Game, and the Keys to Brat City

She got it! Alex Consani presents her—rightfully overfilled, as Jane herself would have wanted—Birkin. “It’s the hardest thing to do, allegedly,” the model says of her covetable Hermès bag.

From its overstuffed pouches, Consani presents the wooden strategy board game Mancala. “Classic, staple, needed,” she affirms. Next is her custom-made, monogrammed journal that she picked up in Paris with fellow model friend Paloma Elsesser. “I do this thing called positive journaling,” Consani explains. “It”s where you write the best case scenario [that] your day could go if you’re having a bad day, and it makes your brain think positively when you’re in situations…of anguish. It’s great, and really chic.” For her birthday, she received a Montblanc pen with her name on it from her friends.

“Manifestation is so important, and writing it down is good for your cognitive thinking,” explains Consani. She actually manifested doing Vogue’s “In the Bag.” “I’ll find the journal entry and send it to you guys,” she says assuredly.

Next to surface from the Birkin is a video game: a very vintage-looking America’s Next Top Model disc. “It teaches me to be a better model,” Consani says with a shrug. “A lot of people think I don’t know how to walk. I brought this to show you guys…I practice a lot.” You wanna be on top? Grab the controller and challenge Alex to a game.

For makeup touch-ups on the go, Consani carries the Saint Laurent “Make Me Blush” powder blush, and her own MAC Cosmetics lip kit. When she feels tired and not cute, she reaches for her eye drops and 111Skin eye patches. A Lush cuticle oil is a Consani family favorite. Stuck for gum or in need of more heavy dental hygiene on the move? The model keeps a suite of dental products at all times. A snacker, too, you’ll find an apple, nuts, and a breakfast porridge mix in her bag. “Real cream of wheat baddies know,” she says.

Ever the manifester, Consani also keeps a little clutch of crystals and a lucky rock. “It’s giving hippie boots—you can tell I’m from the Bay,” says Consani as she shakes the handsewn bag out to share good vibes with the room.

More items include a vintage cardigan clip holder adorned with ballet flats which she bought recently from a flea market for a dollar, Her (rarely) charged phone—“I’ve [got] no charger here, because this is an authentic bag tour”–and copies of her Vogue Italia cover and Japanese Vogue cover.

Also over-prepared with her accessories, Consani packs a sleeve of sunglasses for every vibe and mood: sleek, ’60s Italian spy specs, some buggy Tom Ford goggles, dad glasses, teeny Pradas. There’s two shoe options—but she knows she’s choosing the stilettos—as well as a Carolyn Bessette Kennedy-esque hair band from Michael’s, and a keychain that she says is attached to the key to Brat City. Wired headphones are also a must. “Even if you’re not listening to music, they know that you’re busy,” Consani says—important, in New York.

To keep everything tidy within the confines of the Birkin, Consani keeps a Rhode makeup bag. “I like to have bags for things,” she says. “I want a chapstick…oh, I’ll pull out the chapstick bag. Oh, I want a hot boyfriend…I’ll pull out the hot boyfriend bag. Oh…it’s empty. Like always.”
