If you’ve ever adhered to the “eyes or lips, but never both” beauty adage, it might be time to rethink this beauty approach. Showing us exactly how effective breaking this rule can be is Jennifer Lopez, who paired smoky slate-grey eyelids with bright fuchsia lips at an event in Los Angeles over the weekend.

There to present an award to A-list fitness guru Tracy Anderson, J Lo’s pretty in pink look was something of a departure from her usual glowy looks.

Although Lopez’s color palette looked different, her signature smoky eyes were still the order of the day. This time, make-up artist Scott Barnes eschewed brown and beige neutrals in favor of a different color spectrum, dusting different shades of grey from lash line to socket. Plenty of black liner and lashings of eye-opening mascara finished the look.

For a final flourish, Barnes proved that sometimes more is more with the surprise addition of a pop of pink on J Lo’s lips. A far cry from her usual glossy nudes, the bright raspberry lip shade complemented the tones of her Bach Mai floral dress, and provided the perfect foil to her statement lids. To tie everything together, a delicate pink flush was buffed onto her cheeks.

To keep the focus on her face, hairstylist Lorenzo Martin kept things simple with one of Jennifer’s signature glossy ballerina buns. Because some things never change.
