Jennifer Lopez is the woman who has launched a thousand nail trends: milk-bath nails on her wedding day; sweater-weather polish to celebrate the start of fall; pink nails in a shape we had never considered trying before. But what’s beneath the layers of trendy, glossy manicures? As she revealed at last night’s very star-studded Schiaparelli party: healthy, gorgeous nails.
Manicurist Eri Ishizu used only a “single, thin shade” of the sheer nude Lily of the Valley from PLA to get Lopez’s manicure for the event. “We wanted to do a clean, natural manicure to complement Schiaparelli’s jewelry,” Ishizu said. Her entire nail, from the cuticle to the free edge, was on gorgeous display—just like giant square-shaped ring on her pointer finger.
Nail health has come to the forefront of most people’s minds after years of harsh gel manicures and acrylic removals. There are entire lines dedicated to rehabbing weak nails and helping grow stronger, longer nails (like Dr. Dana’s, which was founded by board-certified dermatologist Dana Stern), as well as products (like the Hermès Les Mains Hermès Nail Cuticle nourishing oil and OPI Repair Mode Bond Building Nail Serum) from brands that are creating ancillary nail-health products to go along with their color offerings.
