Loewe Adds an Artful Touch to Madrid

With the holidays approaching, it’s the perfect time to bring together family and friends, and Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson did just that as he celebrated the Spanish heritage brand at Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid. Guests including Luke Evans, Juliette Binoche, and Pierre-Yves Roussel enjoyed a chic rickshaw ride to the regal palm-clad entrance to the fete and the “Past, Present, Future” exhibition.

“Where’s Mica?” asked the knit-clad Anderson, locating his model friend Mica Arganaraz and pulling her through the linear gallery space (stopping for a quick picture in front of the dazzling Steven Meisel photos). The family affair continued with Loewe insiders—including casting director Ashley Brokaw, stylist Benjamin Bruno, and design duo Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak—all joining in the festivities, set to the sounds of DJ Michel Gaubert (who has produced music for Loewe and J.W.Anderson shows). The crowd was as colorful as the dance floor, which was covered in images from the Loewe archive excerpted from a new book edited by Luis Venegas—including a picture of the president-elect in the 1980s with Ivana Trump, which added a provocative touch.

Politics aside, Anderson’s signature calf-grazing skirts and fit-and-flare dresses swirled energetically on willowy figures such as Gilda Ambrosio and Camille Charrière. And the star accessory of the night? Either the purrfect cat necklace from Fall (spotted on Candela, Bryan Grey Yambao, and Gaubert) or the leather pannier corset belts on Arganaraz and Yasmin Sewell.

For those who could not contemplate saying buenas noches to the balmy evening, Anderson organized an after-party at the famous baronial lounge Bar Cock, reportedly a favorite of artist Francis Bacon, who was also seduced by the magic of Madrid.
