To promote Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Julia Roberts wore a tan suit from the Gucci x Adidas collaboration from the fall 2022 runway. Complete with both brands’ logos on the chest, as well as the sportswear label’s triple jersey stripe on the pants, Roberts’s suit had a faux black karakul fur trim on the cuff. For an even more suited and booted touch, the actor wore a black tie.
Though more and more women are wearing suits on runways and at star-studded events, Roberts has long been a connoisseur of the buttoned-up ensemble. Over 30 years ago, at the 1990 Golden Globes, she accepted her win for Supporting Actress in Steel Magnolias wearing a men’s Giorgio Armani bold-shouldered gray suit along with a navy blue print tie.
Ever since that XXL menswear moment, Roberts has often eschewed dresses for suits in many different iterations. Only one year after her Giorgio Armani suit, the actor accepted a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in Pretty Woman in a pinstripe skirt suit. Fast forward to 2002, Roberts took the saucy route for the 28th Annual People’s Choice Awards in a black suit, sans anything underneath. Roberts further remixed the haute corporate look with peep-toe heels and none other than a toe ring! Just this past May at the Cannes Film Festival, Roberts donned a black suit with a cinched waist and strappy heels.
The same day as her Gucci x Adidas moment, Roberts was photographed in a Thom Browne suit, with her sleeves rolled up to the elbows, and knee-length tailored shorts. Expect to see many more suits from Roberts.
