On a Tuesday morning, as an arctic blast swept through New York City, I made my way uptown to the Burberry store on E 57th St. It was a fitting destination, given the brand’s legacy in luxe outerwear and cold-weather essentials—and the moment I stepped inside, the warm space transported me into a holiday state of mind. Equestrian Knights stood guard (and en garde) on the first floor: one sat perched on a ladder, decorating a Christmas tree covered in Burberry’s iconic heritage check, while another was wrapped in twinkling lights. My mind drifted to my ever-growing holiday gift list as my eyes landed on the scarf bar towards the back. There, an extensive assortment of heritage check awaited. I couldn’t resist trying the new assortment of alpaca scarves that seemed irresistibly cozy, especially on a cold, bitter day.
I continued upstairs to the women’s floor, where a generous selection of trench coats, boots, knits, and the latest ready-to-wear pieces lined the space. I was particularly excited to see some of Daniel Lee’s fall/winter 2025 pieces in person, as he reimagined classics favorites in fringe, velvet, and leather.
After my tour of the store, I slipped into a cozy dressing room where I the pieces I had chosen to try on were waiting for me: signature trench and car coats, a shearling scarf coat from the runway, a beautiful gabardine skirt I instantly fell in love with, Burberry’s equestrian-inspired boots (a pair I didn’t know I needed!), leather bags, and naturally plenty of scarves.
Fully immersed in Burberry’s world, I began my try-on, savoring each detail. Come along to discover a few favorites
A Bold Scarf Moment
Burberry’s scarves remain a fan-favorite and a highlight, and this season’s alpaca wool Happy Scarf is especially delightful. Available in five bright colorways, it offers a playful spin on a winter staple with contrasting fringing. I gravitated toward the soft grey—a neutral that can easily be paired with what’s already in your wardrobe, or worn head-to-toe, as part of a “groutfit.”
The Cozy Knit Set
There’s nothing more satisfying to me than a matching knit set. While browsing, I discovered a wool cable knit ensemble featuring the galloping Equestrian Knight motif that struck a nice balance of soft yet structured. I styled it with the Cavalier boots and the new Mini Highland Bag—a perfect winter day outfit.
Perfectly Polished Pieces
Burberry’s classic gabardine jacket is chicly reimagined here as a skirt. I opted for the juniper green and paired it with a striped cotton scarf blouse, black saddle boots, and the Knight Arc bag. The half moon silhouette converts seamlessly from a top handle to a shoulder bag with a simple strap adjustment.
The Scarf Coat
A standout for me from Burberry’s fall/winter 2025 collection was this shearling coat—an instant must-try. I loved how the built-in scarf taps into the season’s wrapped-up moment, and the fact that it’s detachable is a practical bonus. I styled the jacket with the brand’s runway jodhpurs and the Cavalier boot. Both the scarf coat and boots are in rich berry hues. This pairing felt timeless.
The Forever Trench Coat
A Burberry trench belongs in every wardrobe, and the Fitzrovia is a personal favorite in brand’s heritage line-up. I love the longer fit and fit-and-flare silhouette of this trench coat, especially in a versatile cream hue. I styled it with a check bow blouse for a pop of color and grounded it with the leather boots—a great example of how to make your coat the outfit.
If the Shoe (or Bag!) Fits…
Burberry’s accessories have long held a special place in the hearts of editors, myself included. This season is no exception. The check Cameo pumps, fresh off the runway and inspired by 18th-century court shoes, were at the top of my list to try on; I love their vintage feel. The Cameo mules, as well, stayed with me: they are intricately hand-woven to form Burberry’s heritage check print. The Bridle collection, both the bag and clutch, are modern yet timeless interpretations of the house’s equestrian codes.
The Personalization Bar
Perfect for the holiday season, Burberry is offering a personalization bar for both trench coats and scarves. Trench coat customization typically takes three to four weeks, allowing you to add patches, specialty buttons, or embroidery to heritage classic styles such as the Chelsea, Camden, and Waterloo. Scarves have a quicker turnaround, just three to five days, and can be monogrammed with up to five characters, including the brand’s newly introduced symbols.
For something even more special, the 57th Street flagship features a bespoke trench program, where clients can choose everything from buttons and patches to various lining colors and patterns. This atelier service typically requests 17-week lead time; the Midtown store is the only location in the U.S. to offer a dedicated trench coat bar.
