You don’t have to know me well to know that my wardrobe doesn’t consist of much color—my palette is pretty limited to black, blue (only in denim form), neutrals and well, burgundy. So you can imagine my delight when Sabato De Sarno debuted his new creative direction in September 2023 his new creative direction and decreed burgundy, or “Rosso Ancora,” as the new house hue. And now, it’s not just the hue of Gucci, but of the entire season; fall resort saw a plethora of designers tapping into this rich shade but few have mastered it quite like Gucci. It was the first thing I was on the lookout for when I visited the Wooster Street store in SoHo, New York to browse the new resort collection.

The store is impressive—and a great fusion of character between the space itself (a 155-year-old building that was a former pencil factory) and De Sarno’s sleek, contemporary vision. The perfect example of these two things coming together? The exposed brick against chrome rails and display units, but it was the Cassina armchairs that got me. If I could have taken these home with me, I would have. Anyway, I digress! We’re here to shop clothes not interiors so here’s a breakdown of my must-have items that are perfect for the holiday season and beyond.

The Cinched Waist

There has been an almost unanimous agreement within the Vogue Shopping team that we’re all craving fitted blazers. For so long, masculine, oversized shapes have dominated my wardrobe and as someone who’s quite petite, I don’t know how flattering that actually is for my shape (pleased I am having this realization after years of wearing oversized!) so for now I’m into shrunken, belted and double breasted styles that feel decidedly more flattering.

First-up, this rich satin double-breasted style. I love the sharpness of the tailoring, when I say it was the perfect fit, I mean it. The size I’m wearing is an IT38 with no adjustments needed. I styled it with slim black pants but love the idea of pairing this back with denim and a white T-shirt. This is your forever blazer.

Next up, this wool, belted style which felt very nostalgic; I loved the teeny tiny GG belt, high V, and pocket detail. I kept this simple but would add a turtleneck underneath. These two were my favorites, but tailoring has undoubtedly become a De Sarno signature and the amount of jackets I had to choose from were endless. I love the miniskirts that many of them match with for that easy one-and-done combination.

The Jacket Dress

No pants, no problem, right? Right! Mini skirts, mini dresses, and in my case jacket dresses have all been apparent in De Sarno’s vision for Gucci. There is something about a skimming hemline with flat knee-high boots that feels incredibly cool, casual, and sexy all at once. Whether it’s an oversized coat or a fitted GG jacket, I loved styling these with the signature Horsebit boots for a high-low mix.

Icons Back in Style

Jackie, Bamboo 1947, and now Blondie! Gucci knows how to revive an iconic bag in a new way and Blondie is no exception. It’s chic in burgundy; chic in brown—and comes in leather, suede, with or without a chain strap. Style it with denim and a suede jacket for a full nostalgia feel. The Emblem fabric has remained iconic to Gucci since its launch in 1933; I love the modern hobo style shape which makes this nostalgic fabric feel current and fresh!

The Horsebit Family

The chances are if it has a horsebit on it, I’m buying it. I have always loved this iconic house code and the nostalgic feel it evokes. Jules, the videographer we took in-store with us, even had his very own vintage Horsebit bag which looked right at home. The riding boots, in the gloss burgundy finish, will undoubtedly be a style that will remain relevant for years to come but my favorite iteration were the new ballerinas in chocolate brown suede. Suede has been a big trending item for us here at Vogue Shopping and these shoes will be no different. Paired with denim, they make for the ultimate off-duty outfit.
