Just in time for the holidays, the Princess of Wales has a fresh fringe. Thursday night, Kate Middleton and husband, Prince William, attended the the Royal Variety Performance along with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden and American-Armenian royalty (at least, in my books), Cher. The annual event, which takes place at London’s Royal Albert Hall, benefits the Royal Variety Charity, a nonprofit that assists those who have worked in the entertainment industry.

Middleton wore an ocean blue cape dress designed by Safiyaa, which tonally matched her famed engagement ring. The style and shade are both in the classic wheelhouse. Instead, it was the new shaggy hairdo that felt like a fun surprise.

“This is a more sophisticated and modern version of Farrah Fawcett’s iconic haircut,” says Manhattan-based colorist Jenna Perry. “It has a little bit of this sexy cowgirl shag to it with all of the layers throughout and the long curtain bangs.”

Perry is predicting this to be one of the biggest haircuts of 2024, dubbing it the “Kansas City Cut” because “a girl from Kansas City cut my hair in this style recently.” She adds that the versatility of this cut is what makes it cool: “The way you style it sets the tone. It can be super-romantic or super-cool.”
