Today, the British Royal family led commemorations for Remembrance Sunday. Every year, the Royals are joined by politicians, veterans, and the public to remember those who died in combat.
Kate Middleton—Catherine, Princess of Wales—revisited an iconic look from a previous Remembrance Day service, elevating the outfit with new details. While this is a day of quiet nationwide reflection, it is also, historically, a moment where stage princess’s style speaks loudest. She wore her impeccably tailored black Catherine Walker coat (last seen at the 2022 service) with an architectural lapel, adding a lace, navy blue pie crust collar blouse that peeked out at the neck. Instead of a wide-brimmed hat, as worn in the last appearance, she paired it with a new sculptural Lock&Co fascinator.
Her light brunette hair fell in cascading waves under her hat and down her back, while makeup was kept minimal with a smoky eye and nude lip.
For jewelry, she opted for her late mother-in-law’s Collingwood pearl earrings, and a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Pilot’s wing gold FAA sweetheart brooch. The earrings were an engagement gift to Princess Diana from the Spencer family’s favorite jewelers, the Collingwood Jewelry House.
Rewearing and revamping pieces from her wardrobe are key to the elegant, timeless Kate Middleton style formula. One favored Jenny Packham dress, with white and black piping details, has been upcycled and tweaked several times for various Royal engagements. From designer go-tos, such as Alexander McQueen and the aforementioned Catherine Walker, to high-street favourites such as Hobbs, Self Portrait, and Reiss, Kate has definitely shown the power of a high-profile rewear across her years.
The princess joined Queen Camilla to watch the somber proceedings from a balcony at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), while King Charles led the country in a two-minute silence. Prince William, in the traditional military-style coat and hat, took part in proceedings and laid a wreath.
Last night, Kate was joined by her son Prince George at the Festival of Remembrance, marking his debut at the event. She wore an elegant new black Alessandra Rich dress with a white Peter Pan style collar. Accessories included Bahrain pearl drop earrings (worn by the late Queen and Princess Diana), a James Porter Son Scottish silver thistle brooch, and a Mulberry Bayswater black suede clutch. George, meanwhile, looked sharp in a black suit and striped navy, white, and red tie—a look in keeping with his father’s own dapper style of suiting.
From 2015 to the present day, Kate has relied upon a sophisticated and understated wardrobe for the yearly Remembrance service: a tea-length Jenny Packham dress, bespoke Alexander McQueen and Dolce Gabbana jackets, and Philip Treacy fascinators. There have been several Catherine Walker coats, all with military details: gold buttons, strong shoulders. Last year, Today’s look added a more feminine, Victorian-esque bent.
Catherine has also often worn three poppies on her lapel: while she has never shared the story or significance behind this, it’s assumed to pay a small tribute to her great-grandmother who had three brothers that died in action during World War I. Today, she opted for a modern, ruffled poppy.
As like her previous Remembrance Sundays, Kate Middleton once again proves the power of a strong silhouette and flawlessly tailored piece of outerwear.
