Kelly Rutherford has always been the queen of quiet luxury. From her role as Upper East Side mom, Lily van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl, to now, she’s always been a vision of understated glamour. “My mom is super sophisticated and I used to sit in the bathroom and watch her put her makeup on,” Rutherford tells me, as her new role of Tastemaker in Residence for Noble Panacea is announced. “I’ve always loved that old world thing—New York, the Upper East Side, fashion and magazines!—so I think that’s part of it.”

Wearing chic oversized glasses and a slicked-back bun, Rutherford looks luminous. “I like the formula because it’s hydrating and works really well under make-up,” she explains of the brand’s new Red Limited Edition Absolute Nourishing Lift Oil. “It feels really nice on my skin and is especially good at this time of the year.” The lightweight face oil that harnesses the wonders of water-soluble hyaluronic acid, the formula releases active ingredients over time, meaning the skin remains hydrated throughout the day.

Now 55, Rutherford is all about using fewer, but more hardworking, products. “My skincare routine is simpler now. I think you find your comfort zone and what products feel good to you,” she says. “I like a good cream as standard.” She rotates the rest of her formulas, choosing them based on the weather and what’s going on in her life, but in autumn and winter, the Absolute Nourishing Lift Oil is her go-to. “It’s a really good addition in the winter, as our skin changes when we’re in and out of the heat, or skiing or traveling, or whatever. So it’s all about hydration,” she says.

This less-is-more approach extends from her skincare routine to the rest of her look. “I think as I’ve gotten older, I find that I feel better with less,” she muses. “It feels younger, fresher, and obviously if you want to add a little glamour, you add a deep red lip, which works especially well in the evening.” Autumn beauty, Rutherford-style? We’re here for it.
