Kendall Jenner is in Paris for work, but she managed to squeeze in some downtime – including lunch at celebrity hotspot, Loulous. Kendall was in town to walk in Jacquemus’s spring 2024 show, which was staged within the majestic grounds of the Château de Versailles. Her runway look was apparently inspired by the late Princess Diana—her white romper suit with an ’80s puffy silhouette was accessorized with a multi-strand sapphire necklace, a nod to the royal’s favorite choker. The late Princess isn’t the only fashion icon that Kendall referenced this week: for her Paris lunch she wore an outfit that was almost identical to one of Carrie Bradshaw’s most memorable looks from the original Sex and the City series.

Kendall wore a grey fitted tank top dress by Australian brand St Agni, which is remarkably similar to the charcoal jersey dress that Carrie wore in season two, episode 15 for a doomed date with Vaughn Wysel, and then a post break-up debrief lunch with Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. Images of her knocking on the window of the restaurant her friends are in, wearing the short tank top dress with aviator sunglasses and gold strappy sandals, are a permanent fixture on Instagram and Pinterest, and the look is easily as iconic as her newspaper dress or Vivienne Westwood wedding gown.

This Carrie Bradshaw look is particularly relevant now due to the resurgence of ’90s minimalism, and Jenner certainly leaned into this aesthetic, pairing her little grey dress with rectangular sunglasses, vintage Gucci strappy heeled sandals with bamboo detailing, and a Bottega Veneta Andiamo Intrecciato shoulder bag. All that’s missing is a “Kendall” necklace.

Jersey bodycon and tank top minidresses like Carrie’s are having a moment in 2023, with the likes of Skims, Bec + Bridge and Wolford all creating versions of the style. With the return of And Just Like That, Carrie nostalgia is at an all-time high – Sarah Jessica Parker has also embraced this in her Sex and the City-themed Vogue video, which pays tribute to the fashion in the show.

This isn’t the first time Kendall has dressed like Ms Bradshaw – back in 2019 she wore another body-skimming brown minidress with kitten-heel mules, which was very similar to a DKNY dress Carrie wore in the first series. In many ways these skimpy ’90s dresses are an obvious choice for the supermodel, given that her sister Kim’s shapewear empire Skims is one of the labels fueling the revival of the aesthetic.
