As well as being a member of one of the most famous families in the world, Kendall Jenner is also one of the world’s most in-demand models, the founder of tequila brand 818, and L’Oréal’s newest ambassador. Vogue’s acting senior beauty and wellness editor, Hannah Coates, spoke to her about her beauty and wellbeing routine.

On how she starts her day

I usually get up, wash my face, brush my teeth—probably like anyone else. Then I always like to chug a bit of lemon water. I just made myself this special fresh juice situation—it’s carrots, celery, radish, ginger, and turmeric. I make that then I usually have some breakfast.

On her star sign

I am a Scorpio Aries rising, so I guess I’m intense—that’s what they say—but I do believe in it. I am very much a Scorpio.

On her favorite wellness rituals

I have a lot of hacks and little things that I do. I do cold plunges—I did one earlier this morning and try to get in every day. Sometimes I miss a day because it’s hard to get myself there mentally, but do it as often as I can. It’s my thing right now. What else? I’ve been hearing a lot from doctors and spiritual guides about connecting with nature and how we all lack [exposure to] it. I’ve been trying to get myself outside and have honestly felt a lot better by doing so. I was away for a little while this summer and [just immersed myself] in nature. I left my phone at home—that kind of thing—and walked around with my film camera, so it was really nice. I highly recommend that for anybody and everybody.

On her evening skincare routine and overcoming acne

Since coming out of my acne journey, I’ve leaned towards a less-is-more approach. It’s only in the last two years that I have really started experimenting with serums. Before, it was basically just cleaning my face, using a little bit of toner, and then moisturizing before bed. It wasn’t anything super crazy because I didn’t want to bug my skin even more—it was always so sensitive. As of late, I’ve been experimenting with serums and creams, and I’m having so much fun doing it, honestly.

My nighttime routine is actually more simple than my morning one. I wash my face and then I have this really nice lightweight retinol—it’s more lotion-y than anything, and it doesn’t feel like it’s burning me or drying me out, so I use that. Then I throw on some nice moisturizer to really hydrate my skin at night while I’m asleep. I go to bed looking pretty dewy and glossy! Again, it’s not super serious right now; I think I’m a little traumatized by using too many products, because when I was younger, I would do the most.

On the best piece of advice her mum, Kris Jenner, has given her

She has great advice and likes to share words of wisdom. When I get to sit down with her and grandma and hear about their lives, it’s the stories they share that I can relate to that are [the best advice]. It’s not direct advice but I’m always like, “Oh my God, that fits into my life right now.” The best thing I pull out of their stories is trying to find your happiness and protecting your peace—living life [in a way that feels] truest to you. Everything happens for a reason. Even if you don’t realize it in the moment, you cut back to years later and you can see that if that hadn’t happened, you wouldn’t be here right now. I look at my mum’s journey as a businesswoman and overall woman and… she just inspires me in general.

On how she likes to work out

I like to switch it up. A physical therapist once told me that the best thing you can do for your body is to trick it, so it’s key to avoid getting into too much of a routine with your workouts. If you’re doing the same thing every morning, your body will start to get used to it, so you have to trick it by doing other things. Throughout the week, I’ll do a weights training class with my trainer, and then the next day I’ll go ride my horses, which is a pretty significant workout. And then the day after that, I’ll go and do Pilates. Then I’ll kind of just repeat and throw it all in within the week. It also keeps my brain less bored. I get up every morning and I’m like, “Okay, what physical activity am I doing today?” I like having a hobby inside of it all—I like to go boxing and things like that, it’s great to keep my brain involved.

On her most memorable red-carpet hair moment

I don’t know if this is my forever answer, but for right now the thing that comes to mind is very, very simple. I really loved my red hair at the Vanity Fair Oscars party [in 2022]. I was wearing a big Balenciaga dress and had my hair in a slick pony. It was very delicate and angelic and really simple, and I loved it.

On self-help books

Oh my God, how much time do you have? I love self-help! Michael Singer is probably one of my favorites—The Untethered Soul and Surrender Experiment are two great ones. I don’t know if this is technically considered a self-help book, but I love Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss. I could re-read this book about 40 million times, I love it. What else? Cleo Wade has a really cute book called Heart Talk—it’s an easy read. It’s like poetry but also self-help, I really love it. I also love The Road Less Travelled, All About Love… I could literally go on.

On her signature manicure shade

Right now I have a sunflower yellow going on on my nails, but if we’re talking about signatures, a polish I’ve used throughout the years that I love is a nude by OPI. It’s super nice and clean—really sheer and natural—and it’s one of my main go-tos for times when I need to have clean nails. I love color right now, especially because it’s summer. I’m not into too many patterns, I just love a clean nail shade. I’m really into baby blues too.

Nail Lacquer

On her essential holiday buys

Definitely books, and I love bringing a sheet mask with me. I love to have one to hand, especially if I’ve been on the beach all day and have spent a lot of time in the sun—I like to hydrate my skin after. I also love using a water or rosewater spray on the beach—something to cool me down.

On L’Oréal’s Resistant Liquid Lipstick

It’s unreal—it lasts forever. When I go out with friends I love throwing it on and knowing that it will last all night—even through a couple of drinks. I always find myself running back to the bathroom and reapplying, but with this one, I find I never have to. It has a matte finish but it feels hydrating because it has hyaluronic acid in it.

On her secret to a life well-lived

Obviously life is gonna life. It will do its thing and it will have its tougher moments and better ones. I think keeping a positive mindset through it all is probably the best—and that’s something I’m still training myself to do. I found that when I was younger I had a more negative mindset. There’s a girl in my life, who works with me and she’s awesome—I’m always so impressed by how she looks at things [in a] glass half full [way], even if she has to pretend or convince herself of something. She’s always very positive, and I admire that. I’ve been trying to retrain my brain into acting that way and asking myself where the good is. Where can I find a glass-half-full situation even in the shittiest moments? So, overall, I’d say trying to have a positive mindset and knowing that everything will pass, and it will all be okay in the end.
