Forget the chunky, clobbering ankle booties of seasons past: As fall rolls in, it’s high time to embrace the elegant knee-high boot. Slick and slender, hugging the calves and skimming the leg, the equestrian-derived footwear has fast become a hit among celebrities, too. Back in mid-September, Kendall Jenner stepped out in New York City wearing a figure-hugging black dress with OTK black leather boots, giving off a sleek, ’90s-era attitude. A few days later, Emily Ratajkowski took the trend out for a more casual spin while walking her dog Colombo, wearing an incarnation of knee-high boots in dandelion yellow over skinny jeans. The look didn’t stop there, either: Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, and Kaia Gerber have all been spotted recently in a longer boot silhouette.
And while designers sent plenty of knee-high boots down the Fall 2019 runways, they have also been flooding the Spring 2020 shows. This past month at New York Fashion Week, knee-high boots were shown at both Marc Jacobs and Maryam Nassir Zadeh, and the shape has also cropping up at the European runways, too; in Milan at Gucci in creamy suedes, and in Paris at Y/Project in colorful yin-yang leather versions, and at Isabel Marant in rich hues.
