The Met steps are the perfect place to get in character—and for the Met Gala 2024, La La Anthony’s role was that of a romantic femme fatale. The television personality and evening red carpet correspondent topped off her layering of black lace and gown of screen-printed blooms with a sleek mod ponytail tied in a black satin ribbon, a quick study in the noir updo.

Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”—and accompanying dress code, “The Garden of Time"—evoke thoughts of rambling gardens and a dark sort of paradise, aspects represented in her holistic beauty look. Along with the high-slung and sleek pony, that framed by fluid edges for extra drama, Anthony opted for makeup the oozed dark feminine. A heavily lined lip boasted ombré appeal—generous mocha edges framing an apricot-nude, the work of makeup artist Rokael—the pout’s luminous finish played up by an allover dusting of luminous bronze. Shimmering copper shadow was pressed over lids and up to the brows brushed and penciled to bold perfection, a continuation of the pony’s polish. Rather than keeping things organic, Anthony leaned into the surreality of the look with feathered lashes that demanded personality-filled poses, all big eyes and lace-clad fingers (the lacy layer courtesy of Atelier Biser).

Though the moment packed enough detailing to render the accessory unnecessary, Anthony’s hair ribbon cemented the spirit of the ensemble. It was all came down to exaggeration. After all, isn’t what the evening is all about? Costuming is nothing without the character to match.
