Come awards season Lady Gaga hangs up her conceptual stagewear and doubles down on proper old-school glamour. Her modern takes on Grace Kelly-esque gowns have become a thing of fashion folklore (that periwinkle Valentino ode to Judy Garland!), and the BAFTAs 2022 were no exception.
Showing Brit girls, including Daisy Edgar-Jones and Ellie Bamber, how popstars do the step and repeat, Gaga poured herself into a strapless, waist-cinching velvet Ralph Lauren dress with a dramatic dark-green silk train. With a cluster of Tiffany Co. diamonds and emeralds around her neck, the look read: Hollywood, but with a playful twist.
Of course, there was a prop with which to delight the paps. (This is the woman who orchestrated four outfit changes before she had even entered the Met Gala in 2019). Gaga used her delightfully feathery handbag to throw some (elegant) shapes and work all the angles on the red carpet, like the consummate professional she is. With her peroxide hair curled into immaculate waves and dewy skin to really let those diamonds sing, Gaga managed to upstage everyone else by just being Gaga.
