Laura Harrier is someone who trusts her gut—and perhaps that’s what’s gotten her so far. The model and actress has leant her talents to numerous movie screens and campaigns to date, and is now the face of Hourglass’s new Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder.
A longtime Hourglass fan herself, she says the partnership came together rather organically. Harrier tells me over Zoom she simply “slid in their DMs” to inquire about testing some newness from the brand. “It’s really cool to be genuinely representing something that I love and feel good promoting and know other people will love, too.”
Though Harrier’s glam may appear easy and effortless, she is very particular on what she likes. “I definitely go with my gut and with my eye,” she says. “I’m really specific, even though I’m not overdone.” When asked about what inspires her taste, she cites Sade, Diana Ross, and 90s supermodel as “can’t-go-wrong” timeless references.
Her go-to typically begins with the Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint. “I honestly just kind of rub it on with my fingers; I feel like it s so sheer it really just melts into the skin,” she says. Followed by the acclaimed Vanish Airbrush Concealer—two shades, Flax and Maple, to suit different tones on her face. For color, she might do a blush or bronzer, and set everything with the pressed powder. “It’s great because you’re dewy but you’re not shiny,” she continues. “The oil is controlled but you’re not getting that old school super matte look.” Harrier’s tip: don’t go over your entire face with powder if you want to maintain some of your skin’s natural radiance.
Consider this Harrier’s daytime look for spring and summer days ahead, but when attending a big event or chic dinner, she’s certainly going to take her makeup up a notch. Rather than focusing on one statement (think: a powerful lip hue or a sharp winged liner), Harrier wants to tie both together harmoniously. An O.G. latte makeup girl, she gravitates towards rich browns and smokey finishes across the eyes and lips. “Right now I’m really wanting to do a brown lip liner, something soft on my eye, and really nice glowy skin.”
Aside from gearing up for her next movie (Harrier is set to play Suzanne de Passe in director Antoine Fuqua s forthcoming biopic about Michael Jackson) and partnering with Hourglass, Harrier is keen to strike a balance between work and play. Always on the go, I asked Harrier how she practices wellness while globetrotting. Like most of us, she s been really into sleep. “It’s really hard for me," she says with a laugh. “I need a lot of sleep and I’m not naturally a good sleeper so I’ve been diving into this whole world [of sleep aids.]” She’s found a silk eye mask and melatonin especially useful. Then there’s the basics: drinking water and eating well. She could also say, trips with friends to idyllic destinations does the soul well, too. “I just love the ease of being on a beach somewhere, eating amazing food with your friends.”
So, with trips planned, her schedule booked, and her sleep salves in tow, it seems the new Hourglass pressed powder was the only thing missing for a memorable summer instead.
