Blair Waldorf’s allegiance to Audrey Hepburn was rivalled only by her love of hairbands and terrorizing her Upper East Sider minions. While Leighton Meester seems like a total sweetie, she shares her Gossip Girl character’s love of the Hepburn-esque look.
Stepping out to support her husband Adam Brody at last night’s 30th annual Critics Choice Awards, the actor showed off a considerate fringe trim and a new set of baby bangs that recall Hepburn’s own Holly Golightly character. Meester, who has been a shade of auburn with some super subtle highlights for quite some time, pulled her hair up in a tight, chic bun.
Even just a few milimeters chopped off the bangs makes a big difference. Meester has been a long time bangs fan, and has previously kept them soft and feathered. This well-above-brow-skimming chop is an elegant, ladylike look.
Styled by Ilaria Urbinati, Meester wore a long, flowing custom Dior dress in a pale, sparkly green color. The one-shouldered bodice was sheer with draping over the chest and visible boning, which fell into a long tulle skirt and train. Custom Dior, of course, only adds to the Hepburn fantasy, as a muse for the French house herself.
Celebrity hairstylist Clariss Anya Rubenstein led the way on Meester’s hair, using Nexxus Slick Stick hair wax and Firm Hold hairspray, with multiple brushes to tame any flyaways and keep Meester’s fresh baby bangs in place.
The rest of Meester’s glam was by Bethany McCarty, with a soft-focus smokey eye, a glossy pink lip, and warm blush—reaching for products from Violette, Stila, Milk, and Chuda Skincare.
Meester’s beauty look is another rose in the crown of team baby bangs. Ariana Grande debuted some gamine and short bangs at the Palm Springs Film Festival back in January too—an aesthetic audition, it seems, for the long-rumored Hepburn biopic. As we called it then, we’ll call it now—baby bangs is the hair trend to watch through 2025.
Later in the evening, Meester’s husband Adam Brody won Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. He gave an emotional speech, paying tribute to Meester: “My darling, darling wife. Thank you. Thank you for sharing this life with me and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. Love you with all my heart. Thank you so much.”
When he arrived back with his award, Brody and Meester were captured in a passionate kiss and embrace—of course, Leighton Meester’s masterful bun stayed pristine.
