Leonardo DiCaprio, Ralph Lauren, and Robert De Niro Go Green for Riverkeeper

While the bright young things were tearing up La Croisette in Cannes last night, New York’s greenest came together to celebrate Riverkeeper and its 50th anniversary. Dubbed the Fishermen’s Ball, the evening started off with cocktails at Chelsea Piers followed by a festive dinner hosted by Andy Cohen and honoring Leonardo DiCaprio and Ralph Lauren. “They’re keeping our water clean, which is urgently important, especially with what’s going on in certain parts of the country,” said Cohen, dressed in a natty cream suit from Lauren with a coordinating, muted tie. “I’m a huge Ralph Lauren fan, [and] he’s given me good fashion advice throughout the years.” Anything he could share? “He told me to wear the tie and not to let the tie wear me. I have a tendency to gravitate toward bright ties.”

Cutting a lean and elegant figure was the honoree himself, flanked by his family, including wife Ricky, son David, and daughter-in-law Lauren Bush Lauren. “I’m very involved with the environment and everything that will keep the world healthy and clean,” said Lauren, dressed in his signature uniform of navy blazer, tie, and jeans. “I have supported them over the years—I support a lot of causes that are worthwhile, and so I wouldn’t do it if it didn’t mean anything. I very rarely do any of this.” One factor bringing out the all-American icon was actor Robert De Niro—“Bobby,” according to Lauren—who was on site to debut the Tribeca Film Fellows short film on the organization.

The evening’s other honoree, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, was positively beaming, chatting with artist Chuck Close and mingling with other guests including Mark Ruffalo and Debbie Harry. But deep down inside, he’ll always be Jack from Titanic, according to Cohen. “I have the taste of a 16-year-old girl,” laughed the television producer.
