Lucy Boynton is in her goth-girl era. It’s been a slow but steady transition; a rouge noir lip here, harlequin-esque face embellishments there, and now, while promoting her new film Chevalier, in which she plays Marie Antoinette, the ultimate smoky eye. An intense blend of charcoal and gray, with a single glistening jewel—tear-like on the lower lashes—created by celebrity makeup artist Alex Babsky, it’s what goth-girl dreams are made of.
Lucy’s moody makeup look was an ultra-polished take on the smudged, mascara-streaked aesthetic favored by fans of Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance in the Noughties. We’re calling it elevated emo.
To finish the look off, her auburn locks were swept back off her face (in a trending sculptural bun) to reveal her porcelain complexion, while her nails were painted midnight black for that extra bit of vamp. As for the fit, Boyton oozed gothic glamour in a purple metallic gown by cult New York brand Honor with intricate lace detailing and long billowing sleeves. Overall, a look fit for an 18th-century queen.
