Maison Margiela has a new CEO: Gaetano Sciuto will fill the role left vacant in May by Gianfranco Gianangeli, starting next month, the OTB-owned brand announced Monday.
Stefano Rosso has also taken over the role of chairman at Maison Margiela from his father, OTB chairman Renzo Rosso, who has held the position since the group acquired Maison Margiela in 2002. Both Stefano Rosso and Sciuto will report to OTB CEO Ubaldo Minelli.
“Stefano will take on great responsibilities and this appointment is an important step in his career,” Renzo Rosso said in a statement. “Stefano’s new role and Gaetano’s arrival will be decisive in boosting the potential of the brand and steering it into the next stage of its expansion.”
Stefano Rosso is already a board member of the OTB Group — owner of Marni, Diesel, Jil Sander, Maison Margiela and Viktor Rolf — and is the co-founder of experimental gamer-focused brand D-Cave by Diesel. Rosso is also the CEO of Brave Virtual Xperience or BVX, the metaverse business unit of OTB.
The appointments are part of an ongoing restructuring among OTB’s executive leadership team, as the parent company strives to create “fashion’s alternative luxury group”. In May, in addition to Gianangeli’s exit, ex-Zegna exec Luca Lo Curzio was appointed CEO of Jil Sander. Diesel CEO Eraldo Poletto stepped down in February after a seven-month stint; the brand has yet to hire a replacement.
Sciuto has over 30 years of experience in luxury fashion. He joins from Giorgio Armani, where he held the position of CEO for over four years. Prior to that, Sciuto spent over a decade at the LVMH-owned brand Fendi, where he was global licences and accessories director before becoming president of Fendi Americas in 2013.
“We are delighted to welcome Stefano to the chairmanship of Maison Margiela and Gaetano to the OTB Group, a manager with enormous experience of the luxury business. I want to thank Gianfranco for his work over the years,” OTB’s CEO Ubaldo Minelli said in a statement.
Maison Margiela, which returned to the Paris men’s fashion week schedule in January, has increased its retail footprint, opening doors in Honolulu, Dallas and Shanghai this year. The brand also moved its headquarters to Place des États-Unis in Paris in January.
