At this point on our collective “Barbiecore” journey, we’re all familiar with the aesthetic. Even though Margot Robbie’s looks have evolved throughout the Barbie movie press tour—all the better to embody some of the most iconic Barbies of all time—certain elements have stuck. Namely, her blonde hair hue (the work of colorist Jacob Schwartz, with straight-from-the-box styling by Bryce Scarlett) and a luminous glow.

“The Barbie glow is all about embracing your personal style and beauty; there’s a multiplicity of versions of how that glow would shine,” says makeup artist Pati Dubroff. “For me, the most beautiful glow is one that shows healthy vibrant skin and light that’s emanating from an inner place of confidence and feeling one’s most beautiful.”

For the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Sunday, Dubroff played up the dazzle of Robbie’s black sequin Schiaparelli dress (a nod to the ’60s-era “Solo in the Spotlight” doll) with a collection of Chanel products, beginning with a plump, hydrated base courtesy of the brand’s N°1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum and Sensitive Skin Cream. Next came Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation and Glow Bronzing Cream in Soleil Tan Bronze, before Robbie’s lit-from-within finish was rounded out with a combination of Chanel Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Transparent and Sculpting. “As we are still in the midst of the press tour, there are many more looks to come,” says Dubroff. “With each outfit comes a new opportunity to tap into a version of the Barbie aesthetic.”

As for working with Robbie, who is quickly becoming indistinguishable from the iconic doll? “She’s kind, she’s grounded, she’s collaborative, and always open to being experimental,” says Dubroff. “Her beauty radiates from deep within, that’s who she truly is.”

Pops of pink, preternaturally perfect hair, and referential wardrobe aside, the Barbie imagined by Robbie and writer and director Greta Gerwig shines in a deeper, more thoughtful way, too. “A glow that is not made up purely of cosmetics it’s the one that’s most aspirational from within,” says Dubroff. “That’s real beauty.”
