In the midst of London Fashion Week, on Sunday, September 17, Vogue100 members joined Anna Wintour—chief content officer, Condé Nast, and global editorial director, *Vogue—*Lisa Aiken, executive fashion beauty director Vogue, GQ, and Allure, and Naomi Smart, commerce director of British Vogue, at the spectacular Matches townhouse in the heart of Mayfair.
The retailer’s flagship, 5 Carlos Place, played host to an intimate breakfast, with a two-course menu curated by Douglas McMaster, founder of the Hackney-based restaurant Silo, served on elegant green tableware provided by Themis Z.
Upon arrival, attendees were offered Ruinart champagne, a range of fresh juices, and a selection of teas from The Rare Tea company, before enjoying koji porridge, shiitake miso and egg yolk, and amazake frozen yogurt, strawberry, and lemon verbena.
London-based florist Scarlet Violet masterminded the displays of fresh cosmos, which lined the long tables set up in the ground floor space, surrounded by rails of Matches’s new season brands and hero buys.
Afterward, guests experienced one-on-one styling sessions with team Vogue in the private shopping suites. A handful of editors curated a wish list of their standout autumn/winter 2023 pieces – including cream suiting from The Row, Prada’s cult oversized suede jacket, and denim by Matches’s in-house brand, Raey. Accessories-wise, Gucci’s reworked horsebit clutch bag, Bottega Veneta’s interecciato Sardine bag, and Loewe’s slouchy Puzzle tote bag were also selected as Vogue’s key buys for the season.
