“You have to look after your skin,” Maye Musk muses after applying a lifting-and-firming sheet mask by 111Skin and dotting eye serum under her eyes. “Because otherwise, then you start looking in the mirror and not liking yourself—and we can’t have that.” For the 73-year-old model, taking care of her skin means a thoughtful regimen that includes hair and hand care, with heavy emphasis on sun protection and eating well to support a healthy glow.
When it comes to makeup, Musk explains that “powder has improved a lot over the years,” turning to Dior Forever Cushion Powder. “Because in the past, when you’d put powder on, it would cake all over your face, and now it just blends beautifully. I think the brushes are so much better too.” She applies blush just below her cheekbones and atop her eyes to add a subtle flush of color, moving on to an eye shadow palette and mascara by Dior, then applying individual lashes. Opting for Dior’s Forever Couture Luminizer Highlighter Powder, she notes how the shimmer “catches the camera well, especially in photo shoots.” After participating in the iconic Twiggy makeup trend in the ’60s, she now relishes more natural makeup. “As you get older, you have to change with the fashion,” she says.
For her hair, Musk reaches for an assortment of products by Paul Mitchell. “Many women are scared of going gray, but I wasn’t. I was scared I’d never model again,” she says. “But as you see, it opened up the whole field of modeling.” These days she accentuates her hair with volumizing and texture products. Finally, Musk (who used to be a hand model) rounds out her routine with Chanel’s iconic hand cream, something she “keeps in her bag at all times”; a cuticle oil pen; and a spray of Dior Gris Dior fragrance.
