Whether you’re dressing up for a black-tie soirée or getting cozy and watching the ball drop from the comfort of your own home, one thing rings true for December 31: Fabulous New Year’s nails will always help you get in the festive mood.

Sparkly silver glitter and bejeweled embellishments on winter nail colors are a staple; nothing says New Year’s Eve quite like shiny nail art. For those looking to take those classic New Year’s nail designs—the French manicure, ombré nails, matte effects, etc.—to the next level, opt for cool-girl metallics or holographic finishes. Maybe even add some textured grooves or unexpected decals. The options are endless.

FAQs

What nail colors are going to be trending this New Year’s Eve?

As mentioned above, Goldstein predicts silver, metallic reds, olive green, and deep navy blues will be trending this New Year’s Eve. Queenie Nguyen likes milky nails, deep jewel tones, and chrome.

How far in advance should I book a New Year’s Eve manicure appointment?

For when you re thinking about what salons to go to for your New Year s Eve nail appointment, when to make an appointment will depend on the type of manicure you want. Goldstein says that if you’re just going in for regular nail polish, go no earlier than two days before. If you want a gel polish (“Especially if you’re going with a color,” she says), no earlier than six days before to avoid new growth at the base

For more intricate nail art, like chrome, 3D textures, gem accents that will take extra time, Queenie Nguyen recommends planning one to two weeks in advance to request these types of manis. It’s always advised to not leave it to last-minute, especially if you prefer a particular technician and time slot, she says.
