The Cité du Cinéma in Saint-Denis has been the site of film shoots for the likes of Jackie and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, but last night the complex played host to the 2017 Pirelli Calendar gala. Considering this year’s calendar—photographed in black and white by Peter Lindbergh—stars 14 A-list actresses including Lupita Nyong’o, Julianne Moore, and Rooney Mara, the locale couldn’t have been more perfect.
Many of Lindbergh’s famous muses turned up to celebrate, too. Early in the evening, Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren, and Charlotte Rampling arrived to embrace the lensman and help reveal the calendar’s stunning portraits. Later on in the night, guests from around the world feasted on Italian cuisine and took in the sounds of a symphony—sometimes drowned out by the ding of clinking Champagne flutes. Dancing ensued until the wee hours, but no matter. Lindbergh’s unretouched portraits of such inspiring women deserve all the fanfare.
