On Thursday night in Tribeca, the intersection of Duane Street and Greenwich Street in Tribeca also served as the point of convergence for fashion and art. Singer-songwriter and artist Alison Mosshart transformed Nili Lotan Men s Store into a vibrant art exhibit, "NO SLOW SONGS," housing an intimate assembly of close friends and family. The eclectic evening highlighted what is at the core of both Mosshart s artistry and Lotan s design ethos: fearless self-expression.
NO SLOW SONGS celebrates art, music, and rock and roll, which is complemented by Lotan s ready-to-wear collections and creative collaborations that spotlight pioneering female artists like Mosshart. “NO SLOW SONGS is more than just an exhibit—it’s a space where we invite others to experience that fearless spirit that defines both of us, and I’m so happy to give this platform to Alison to be who she is,” Lotan tells Vogue.
The Kills frontrunner Mosshart says, “NO SLOW SONGS—Feels personal. Too personal to really want to talk about. I tend to write songs and paint paintings so that I don’t have to talk. The work is the narrative. It’s full of questions and riddles and confessions. Sharing your art with the world is a naked act. It’s a crazy thing to do. Making it is a lot like blacking out.”
In celebration of the opening, an influential mix toasted LALO tequila cocktails and listened to the duo discuss the inspiration behind the collaboration and their journeys as creatives. Damian Lewis, David Broza, Laura Prepon, Karen Elson, Derek Blasberg, and Kate Lanphear stood amongst the notables.
Mosshart added, "My 8-year-old niece Goldy appears in this show a lot. I’m obsessed with her; her photos hang all over my studio. I’m surrounded by this young, wild, fearless person who has no interest in being anything but herself, at the loudest volume, at the fastest speed, without an ounce of concession. She falls in love with something new every 10 minutes. Such a wonderful thing to do. To me, she represents primal instinct, living, breathing art. She didn’t seem the least bit surprised when I told her she was in a lot of my new paintings. She was like, ‘Duh. Wish I could come to New York.’”
NO SLOW SONGS will be open to the public from March 28 through April 17 at the Nili Lotan men’s flagship store. 183 Duane Street, NY.
