Chappell Roan is fearless on the red carpet. When she’s not channeling Miss Piggy drag, she’s snapping back at disrespectful photographers, making the step-and-repeat an overall less stressful experience, much to the gratitude of her fellow pop stars. And this evening at the 2026 Grammy awards, she’s baring it all.
The “Pink Pony Club” singer stepped out in a wine-red custom Mugler look that was backless—and also technically front-less. Why not party in the front and the back? The completely sheer material hung loosely from nipple rings, showing off her delicate tattoos, including a tapestry-style back piece that could be seen upon her taking off a matching sheer hooded robe. “I like breaking the mold,” Roan told E!’s Zuri Hall on on the carpet.
The dress was a reference to Thierry Mugler’s bold and iconic spring couture 1998 runway show, in which Erica Vanbriel modeled the original nipple piercing dress. (You may also recognize other looks from the collection from Kim Kardashian’s extensive Mugler archive.) Miguel Castro Freitas also recreated the silhouette in his debut spring 2026 collection for the brand, then in a nude fabric embroidered with metallic stars.
Roan is nominated this evening for record of the year and best pop solo performance for her hit single “The Subway.” As for what fans can look forward to in terms of new music, Roan dropped a few small hints that she’s started writing again. “I have started writing but I don’t know what the collection of songs means yet and that just takes time but I know that I feel excited to write,” she remarked.
