“It is pretty crazy being friends with [someone] I really believe is the voice of our generation,” says Alex Wolff, delightfully embarrassing Billie Eilish. In Vogue’s latest episode of Off the Cuff, the long-time pals giggle over the last time they were starstruck (spoiler: it was when they met each other), how Eilish’s current style parallels Wolff’s childhood style, and their dream dinner party guests (each other’s families).
Eilish and Wolff both experienced fame early, with Eilish releasing her first single at 14, and Wolff starring in The Naked Brothers Band on Nickelodeon when he was six. In a conversation that pinballs between the dryly sarcastic and touchingly sincere, they recall their initial impressions of one another, discuss their favorite (and least favorite) sounds, and exchange rapid-fire personal questions—many of which they already know the answers to.
The pair have jam-packed summers ahead of them: While Eilish, who recently dropped her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, has a world tour to prepare for, Wolff is hitting the road to promote A Quiet Place: Day One, co-starring Lupita Nyong’o, following his recent appearance in Oppenheimer. Needless to say, there are a lot of red carpets ahead of them—though they both still get a kick out of reminiscing on their firsts: the step-and-repeat at a Teen Vogue party for Eilish, and the VMAs for Wolff.
