Marianna Hewitt is a woman of ease. It’s an attitude not only reflected in her daily life, but one also imbued in Summer Fridays, the beauty company she cofounded with Lauren Ireland in 2018. The brand, whose name is synonymous with the blissful feeling of ending the work week early, has become a go-to for gentle, hydrating skin-care and makeup products that are both effortless to use and pretty to look at. Seven years into existence, Summer Fridays continues to build on this mindset. This year so far, it’s launched a radiant Blush Butter Balm with an accompanying brush, a new shade of its viral Lip Butter Balm (Pink Guava), and Bronzing Drops—a luminous serum meant to unlock one’s summer glow.
Summer Fridays’ products also just became available internationally, which means Marianna finds herself more often than not on the go. She calls Los Angeles home base, but frequently flies out East to New York City (she’s the creative director for L’Academie) and Europe, to Paris, for fun, her trips chronicled to her million-plus Instagram followers.
“Some days are dedicated to creative work like approving product packaging, reviewing campaign edits, or concept-ing new launches,” she tells me. “Others are full of back-to-back calls and Zooms, but I try my best to build in space for quiet focus time, but I’m often moving between things quickly.” Her everyday, it seems, is about embodying the actual feel of a summer Friday, prioritizing well-being before clocking out for the day.
How does Marianna find her zen? Every morning starts with three Ms—matcha, movement, and meditation—and a no-fuss skin-care routine. “I’m always listening to podcasts during my walks or while getting ready and if I hear something interesting, whether it’s a new habit, or wellness ritual, I’ll try to incorporate it into my routine and see how it makes me feel.”
Through it all, Marianna remains undeniably put together. It is her taste—and general approach to life—that’s most compelling. Her style, she describes, combines California ease with Parisian polish—relying upon “pulled-together but comfortable, elevated essentials I can wear from morning to night.” The art to her beauty look continues this laissez-faire approach. “During the week, I keep it simple and low-maintenance,” maybe air drying her hair to avoid heat damage and embrace her natural waves, with just a hint of makeup. “I always have on concealer, lip liner, and Lip Butter Balm—those are my everyday staples.”
Ahead, she shares with Vogue her go-to beauty and wellness essentials that get her ready for a packed day ahead—from the mini edit she keeps in her bag at all times to the everyday things that keep her refreshed and prepared no matter where she is.
Little Mood Lifters
Hewitt keeps a “joy list” of the little things that lift her mood and sunlight is at the top. “Luckily in LA, I can step outside for some fresh air and a reset,” she says. “If I can pair it with a walk, a meditation, or just moving my body, it always makes a big difference.” She likely doing so in her APL Zipline sneakers and Oura ring.
In the aim of feeling her best, Marianna is also a bit of a supplement girl. She drinks electrolytes once a day and is partial to Ultima’s. “I always keep a packet in my bag to mix into water for a hydrating boost,” she says. “It helps me stay balanced throughout the day, especially if I’m running around or in meetings nonstop.” At night, it’s Moon Juice’s Magnesi-Om powder, known to promote better sleep and relaxation. “I really try to stick to a consistent morning and evening routine and prioritize quality sleep it’s the foundation that helps me feel good through everything I have going on.”
Quick Minimal Makeup
“My makeup routine is quick and minimal—it’s all about looking polished with little effort,” she says, relying upon skin-care-makeup hybrids that are easy to use, “especially creams I can apply without needing to be too precise.” A wash of the Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint sets the stage, delivering what she calls “a ‘your skin but better’ finish without ever feeling heavy.”
A touch of Hourglass’s blurring concealer is next, which Marianna says has amazing coverage without feeling cakey. “I have a mini size for quick touch-ups throughout the day,” she continues. “It’s perfect for refreshing under eyes or if I need to touch up.” Concealer complete makes way for a curl of the lashes, a swipe of mascara, and a stroke of brow gel. Lips get enhanced with Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Lip Definer and balm—“I love how it instantly makes me look a little more put together,” she says—paired with a creamy blush for a healthy flush and a quick mist of setting spray if she’s going out or heading to meetings.
Pinterest-Worthy Hair
“My hair has lived many lives on Pinterest and it’s been fun to see all the different brown shades over the years,” Marianna says. “Because I color it, I’m mindful about keeping it healthy, especially between events when it gets styled often.” Keeping it healthy, for her, involves tailoring her air dry routine, complete with a scalp-cleansing shampoo, hydrating conditioner, a leave-in to detangle, and a Rōz’s nourishing hair milk. “On days when I air dry my hair, this is essential,” she tells of the hyaluronic acid-infused serum. “It smooths, defines, and keeps my hair looking healthy and hydrated without weighing it down. It gives that effortless, soft texture that I love.”
For her signature blowout, which she says always “makes her feel more confident,” she relies on a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, a volumizing spray to lift at the roots, and then either the Dyson Airwrap or the Mane medium round brush to create shape and bounce.
Hydrated, Dewy Skin
Hydration is non-negotiable for Marianna. “I always make sure my skin and lips feel nourished,” she says. “I never feel [myself] like when my skin feels dry.” Following a morning face cleanse, she’s apply the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Eye Patches while she gets ready. “They instantly depuff and hydrate, and I love how they make me feel more awake in just a few minutes.”
Once her eye masking time is up, she locks in nourishment with a hydrating mist, the accompanying Deep Hydration Serum, and if she’s feeling extra tired, an ice cube for a quick and targeted cryotherapy treatment to wake up her skin. Never one to forego sunscreen, her ShadeDrops Mineral Milk SPF is the perfect last step: “it’s lightweight, dewy, and gives me the protection I need every day.”
