I challenge you to find someone who doesn’t love Bethann Hardison—the 80 year-old trailblazing model, activist, and den mother to countless women in the fashion industry—who joined us in the podcast studio to talk about Invisible Beauty, the documentary she co-directed with Frédéric Tcheng in association with Vogue Studios. It tells the story of her life, and in doing so, examines the struggles and successes of Black models on and off the runway. Hardison chatted with us about everything from the highs and lows of the legendary Battle of Versailles fashion show, to growing up in Bedford Stuyvesant in the 1950s and leading the charge to demand more diversity on the runway.
We also had a visit from Vogue’s fashion director, Virginia Smith, who managed to squeeze in half an hour between December issue fittings to tell us everything she loved about New York Fashion Week (and a few things she didn’t love, like the weather). From Tiffany Haddish’s front-row enthusiasm at Tory Burch to Michael Kors’s gorgeous riverfront setting, Virginia shared her favorite moments of the week, as well as the themes and trends that stood out to her—like ’90s minimalism and sleek, wearable separates, the building blocks of a great New York wardrobe.
