When it comes to mastering the art of the travel wardrobe, it’s no surprise that our favorite fashion insiders also moonlight as packing pros. In My Packing Style, we tap some of the most well-traveled people we know for a peek inside their travel bags and vacation wardrobes to see how they take their style on the road. You’ve bookmarked the trip, you’ve screenshotted the outfits; now, a look at how it all comes together
In its most archetypal form, the allure of French girl fashion lies in its simplicity: It’s the idea of a few well-made staples that mix and match and look effortlessly elegant with the swipe of a lipstick. This same reason is also why it travels well. Clara Cornet, Instagram’s EMEA fashion partnerships manager (and native Parisian), knows this—her on-the-go wardrobe is the very picture of pared-back polish. With Paris Fashion Week in full swing and jet-setters flocking to the capital, who better to give us some insight into what a travel capsule version of this much-bookmarked style looks like?
“I m very practical and pragmatic in my packing approach,” explains Cornet. Easy essentials that can take on many forms (and many outfits) are her go-to, no matter the destination. In practice, this means ultra-soft wool trousers that can be worn on the plane and to a meeting when she lands; classic Chanel slingbacks and Ray-Ban Wayfarers for final touches; and, of course, several stripes of both the pinstripe and Breton variety.

She recently got back from a trip to Arles, in the South of France, where she put her packing philosophy to the test for days spent biking around the city center and catching up on exhibitions from the photography festival—so of course, we had to pry. Ahead, Cornet walks us through her travel style, her favorite vacation-ready brands, and the one wardrobe workhorse that you’ll always find in her suitcase.
I love packing very much ahead, it’s actually an obsession of mine. I could have my suitcase ready a full week before a trip. That way I’m much more relaxed and can focus on travel activities and building up an itinerary!
I admire the travelers that pack full outfits ahead; I wish I could be one of them, but I’m not as skilled. Instead, I bring super versatile items that I can wear on repeat, styled in many different ways and layered for all types of weather.
Matteau, Loulou de Saison, and Toteme—very much effortless chic and easy to style. I wear my Matteau Breton stripe sweater all year long. Maybe because I’m French? We sure do love a good striped shirt. And I always pack drawstring pants. You never know how much you’ll be eating on a trip.
My Rimowa cross-body Groove bag. I call it my tiniest carry-on as it can fit absolutely everything I need for the flight (passport, face mask, book, lip balm), and I don’t have to put it in the overhead compartment or worry about it taking up any legroom. It’s also very cute as a day bag; the silver colorway will make any outfit pop.
And my favorite suitcase is Rimowa’s Trunk Plus. I pack it for every trip. Even if it’s sometimes half-empty, I love how ludicrously capacious it is!
“Get you a girl that can do both.” I have to be comfortable, yet possibly be ready to get on with my day. When traveling for work, for example, I often don’t have time to change between landing and my first meeting. My absolute favorite combo is an elastic-waist pant or a skirt with a good knit and a blazer jacket. The jacket is my trick that makes me feel put together immediately (my pinstripe travel blazer is from The Frankie Shop—it does not wrinkle). With comfy shoes, always.
My sunglasses and my hair brush. I wear my Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses when I travel because they’re a classic Wayfarer shape and work with any outfit, and I can listen to music or capture travel content on the go.
I’m team cashmere twinset. I bring both cardigan and sweater and layer them depending how freezing the AC in-flight gets—or even use one as a scarf. Reformation has so many color options for the Clara cardigan, which literally has my name on it.
My every-season travel absolute favorite is the iS Clinical Sheald Recovery Balm. It can fix a sunburn from the beach or heal chapping skin from a mountain top.
I am quite minimal with accessorizing, as I tend to pack as light as possible, so I will prioritize day-to-night accessories and overpack on jewelry. It’s lightweight, so no harm done, and it can light up any outfit. I always travel with my Sophie Bille Brahe travel case.
I’m more of a steam-in-a-hot-shower kind of girl—it’s a good trick if your accommodation does not have a steamer on-site. I’ve steamed impossibly wrinkled garments via a good old burning hot shower.
Chanel slingback flats are a forever icon that work with every outfit. I’m also very much into a sun hat for both summer and winter, especially on holiday. I need strong sun protection so I will always keep a good cap within reach. I collect them from hotels that I love, and they make great souvenirs—my two favorites right now are from the Ritz Paris x Frame and Hotel du Cap x Sporty and Rich collaborations.
A men’s shirt. I have this white-and-blue striped ultra-light Loro Piana shirt that I can’t get enough of, and another favorite from Charvet. A good crisp shirt will always elevate an outfit, whether it’s casual with white denim pants or thrown over a swim suit.
Leave plenty of room for souvenirs! I once brought back five mega piñatas from Mexico City (for scale, that’s basically the size of a full Rimowa trunk suitcase) because my four-year-old son wanted to bring one for each of his friends at school… he was disappointed we could not bring back more.
Always pack cute PJs—you never know who you’ll run into in the morning in the hotel lobby, or who will stay over for breakfast when you least expect it…
