I’ll admit it: Over the past few months, I’ve really leaned into this more casual, at-home iteration of Vogue HQ. But you wouldn’t necessarily know of my laissez-faire sartorial attitude should we meet on Zoom. Working at home, I like to prioritize comfort and function over form. Unbeknownst to my immaculately dressed colleagues, I’ve grown accustomed to spending many a work day in comfortable decade-old tees, buttery-soft shoulder-baring tanks, and once even (gasp) a swimsuit—things I’d never normally wear to the office. When the clock strikes 11:59 for a 12:00 virtual meeting, however, it’s time to get work-ready. How could I possibly go from grubby to presentable in 60 seconds you ask? Easy.
The key is to have a blouse and a piece of jewelry on your desk next to you for an instant fix. If I decided on a super soft, but too-sheer white tank top, for example, I’ll take the 60 seconds before my meeting to throw a printed button down over my tank. Maybe I’ll button it up, maybe I’ll leave it open, so long as I spare my colleagues from seeing too much of me. Next, with the last 30 seconds to spare, I’ll pop on a necklace to top it off, so long as the clasp cooperates. As soon as the meeting ends, I’ll remove the accoutrements, placing the necklace back on the table and draping the shirt neatly over the back of the chair next to me until needed again.
