The Resort 2022 Trend Report

The Resort 2022 Trend Report

Even before the pandemic fractured the fashion system, the resort season was one of the strangest. Spanning months and aesthetics—swimwear and coats often sharing the catwalk—resort collections were the catchall for many brands, featuring items destined to sell because of the season’s long shelf life and arrival during the holidays.

The resort 2022 shows continued this mixed-up sense of the season, offering a diverse and unpredictable array of trends. In our current moment, unsure of reemergence but ready to dress up again, a little fashionable chaos does indeed feel in step. But will you wear a micromini suit worthy of Cher Horowitz and Jean Seberg or prefer a covered up poncho from Gabriela Hearst or Thom Browne? The one thing all designers seem to agree on is that comfort isn’t going anywhere: Luxurious leggings appeared at Christian Dior, Burberry, and more. See all the trends from resort 2022 here.

Everything Dressing

Designers (and their stylists) are going from the minimalism of sweatpants to the maximalism of, well, wearing an entire wardrobe at once. Shirts over shirts over dresses, sweaters tied around waists, and scarves by the neckful are all worn together, making for a new kind of eclectic, bold silhouette.

Luxury Leggings

For those who have adjusted to the comfort of sweats, but are ready for a more polished look, the resort season promises leggings in rich colors and graphic patterns—and lots of them. Some have a scuba feel, others are meant to reflect a new sportiness and ease.

Stretchy Shapewear

A sheer meshy top or dress stretched over the waist might not seem like the most obvious or essential trend, but since their appearances at Chanel and Givenchy, the idea is starting to stick.

Going-Out Dresses Are Coming Back

Brands are betting big that by the holiday season and New Year’s Eve, we’ll have reason to break out the heels and crystal frocks. Sequins and sparkle came in every color and length for resort—just add a party playlist.

Feathers for Day

If designers are betting on sparkle for evening, they are even more certain that plumage is right for daily life—especially in contrasting colors and patterns.
